Domestic violence is the physical violence that arises from domestic abuse. It’s the worst experience that anyone can have in their life. It arises when someone tries to gain and sustain control over every part of their partner’s life. And to achieve this, normally they use fear, guilt or shame and expand the dominance.

But as per the latest research, it has been noticed that not because of proving the dominance, but due to stress, work pressure, and alcohol influence, this sort of violence takes place. Hence, it becomes important to save yourself from this situation.

However, the laws and policies might vary in your state regarding domestic violence. Like in Chicago, domestic violence is classified as a violent criminal offense.

As per the recent data if in Chicago you are convicted of domestic violence then the penalties include up to 1-year confinement in county jail and a huge fine of up to $2,500. Hence, it’s important to know what your state rule is.

Now you must be thinking how? Well, there are plenty of tips that you can consider if you face a similar situation and they are jotted down below:

Take Precautionary Measures

These days with the dominance of the internet, even the big fight takes place when a partner starts spying on your social media account or checks your emails. So make sure you change every password and credential and save the details at the library or friend’s PC. So that it just becomes impossible to track your details. As it is said precaution is better than cure, so it’s better to do it then to suffer later.

Be Ready for Emergencies

In case things get out of control and you need to flee in a hurry, make sure you keep an emergency bag and hide it at a safer place. Your bag should have your and your kids clothes, ample amount of money, car keys and a spare mobile phone. Your mantra should be “Be prepared”. This way you don’t have to tolerate the pain, just get your bag and leave.

Get Help and Support

Tolerating domestic violence is a crime too, so as soon as you face violence make sure you have a number from where you can take help. There are so many support programs and experienced divorce lawyers available to support you. As suggested by Chicago divorce lawyer, if you wish to tell your partner that you are leaving because of the abuse then take help from the lawyers and make it legal.

Get Proof of Abuse

If you are planning to go ahead with divorce and want to take full custody of your kids, then you need to gather proof of abuse. Take pictures or record a video of physical abuse, save the emails and messages that contains threatening and abusive content, and call the authorities of your state when you face the abuse.

Do not forget to keep your important documents in a safer place. Otherwise your personal information and records will be in their possession which you definitely don’t want to.

Final Words

There is no reason in the world to adjust with domestic violence. Hence, stop it when it comes to your way for the first time. There are few ways mentioned above that you can consider while saving yourself from it. Make sure to get a domestic violence attorney and handle it legally, if you have lost all the hopes to control it personally. The lawyers can help you in the right way and you have options on how to handle and control the situation. It’s better to move on than stay and bear the pain.
