Not all ants are harmful and interfere in your daily domestic business. There are thousands of species of ants and only a few of them cause any harm and fewer take shelter inside homes.

On the contrary, an overwhelming majority of ants like to stay in the gardens or soil which results in good for human beings as they control the breeding of harmful pests.

Nonetheless, having ants in your home especially in your kitchen has the potential to make you nauseous other than their obvious side effects i.e, they like to hijack your groceries. You should step up your game and take some actions right when you see a few ants hanging around in your kitchen because where there are a few, there are usually thousands of others as ants have their special way of following their fellows with their unique scent.

Following are a few tried ways you can get rid of your ants and keep your kitchen clean and tidy. You can thank us later!

1- Detergents and Hand Soaps to break the pheromone Chain

This may sound bizarre to a few but ants have this unique way of following other ants and it’s called pheromone. It’s a chemical substance that is released in the air by any mammal animal or insects for other species to follow their way.

Using a scented liquid detergent on the ant trails, their start, and endpoint can break this chain as this whole process works on ants’ scent. You can substitute it with a non-scented hand soap too if you are allergic to the detergent smell.

2- Use pesticide sprays, powders, and gels

Pesticide sprays and powders can put an end to your ant problem for a longer period and it is an experienced way too. All you have to do is dig a little deep in searching for the best pesticides or you can take services of companies with expertise in the relevant field like Wentzville ant exterminators and make sure you don’t have to worry about it anymore.

3- Tea tree and lemon eucalyptus oil

Oil extracted from the tree of Lemon eucalyptus is known as an insect repellent as it contains citronella in it that is also used in candles for keeping flies and bugs away. It is not scientifically proven but anecdotal evidence indicates it can help repel ants.

Such is another oil called tea tree oil which you can make use of as a spray by mixing 5-10 drops in cups of water. Make sure you keep both things away from the children’s reach and only spray it where the trail starts from and ends at.

There are several other ways to control ants problem in your kitchen or any part of your home like boric acid, silicon dioxide. Natural ways are also quite effective in uprooting this problem too. We hope you try our selected ways and give us your feedback!
