A new year brings new projects. Updating your home can be easy and inexpensive.
5 Updates Your Home Needs
As the new year gains momentum, it’s important to note that there are several ways you can optimize your private living space. Doing so can be important for numerous reasons, including the fact that the ambience you cultivate in your home can play a profound role in affecting your mood and general disposition towards life. Since this is the case, be sure to consider implementing the following five home updates this year:
1. Home Security System
As a result of technological advances, now is the perfect time to invest in a home security system and take additional measures to secure your home. These days, you can have a state-of-the-art security system installed and receive electronic updates regarding the status of your private living space via text messages and e-mails on your smart phone. The innovative design of home security systems makes it incredibly easy for you to get regular updates regarding your home no matter where you are, and installation can be incredibly fast and simple. With the installation of your home security system, you can rest assured that you and your loved ones are safe.
2. Privacy
Lately, more and more homeowners have realized that barn doors are an incredibly stylish, savvy way to contribute to the privacy of their homes. Moreover, installing a barn door interior track system can increase the functionality of your home. To make use of this home update, you may be interested in completing it as a do-it-yourself project. However, it’s also important to note that hiring professionals can make the installation process simple and seamless.
3. Neutral Spaces With Bold Color
Homeowners who are interested in being as trendy as possible should note that one of the cutting edge home decoration modalities for a new year is to create neutral spaces where the dominant color for furniture and carpet is a beige, soft brown, or similar shading. The neutral tones give the decor a subtle, sophisticated flair. To liven up the aesthetic, you can add a “big, bold, bright” color such as orange or coral. The contrast between the two types of shading looks absolutely amazing, and there are infinitely many ways you can add in the bright color (decorative pillows, artwork, a rug, etc.)
4. Dark Walls
Although white walls have been a staple in many homes for numerous years, black walls are gaining momentum for several reasons. In addition to carrying a very subdued and sophisticated weight, black walls pair well with the metallic accessories that have come to populate so many houses these days.
5. Layers, Layers, Layers
This year will likely be the year of the layer. Interior decorators have been buzzing about the rise of using a plethora of materials and textures to create a multi-dimensional look. In addition to focusing in on layers, homeowners who want to be as savvy and smart with their decoration style as possible should consider the aesthetic appeal that will result from mixing different fabrics, woods, and metals.
Summing It All Up
This year will bring new opportunities and options, including the way you decorate your home. To keep your living space modern and beautiful, be sure to implement some or all of the home decoration strategies outlined here. Also keep in mind that you have a plethora of options with respect to how you implement the aforementioned tips and tricks. In addition to hiring professional home decorators, you may find yourself interested in completing a do-it-yourself project with friends and family members. Irrespective of the decision you make, know that updating your private living space will bring new life and light to your home. Good luck!

These are interesting ideas. I like that barn door suggestion for privacy. I might actually try that… Gotta talk to the hubby. (I found you at the linky party hosted this week at FineCraftGuild.com)

I am totally painting my walls black when I finally own my own home! Black walls look cleaner than white walls with children’s dirty handprints everywhere, haha.

I don’t understand how barn doors will help a small room. While they don’t extend into the room and thus safe floor space, they take up wall space which is often at a premium in small bedrooms.

Joanne,
The ideas here are to update a bedroom and are not necessarily intended specifically for small rooms.
Thanks,
