You may feel like the sky is the limit when you are building the home of your dreams, and sometimes that is true. However, for the majority of homebuilders, the costs associated with building a home can quickly skyrocket as bigger rooms, better appliances, and more livable area becomes important.

5 Features To Include When You Build a New Home

You may want to include some unique features in your project that will provide a benefit for many years to come, so take this opportunity to be creative and maximize your investment power with a few of these modern features.

1. Basement

Many people choose to have a basement when they create a new build house. A basement can double the livable space within the home once it is completed; however, if you want to make a smart move in the basement, ask for a “deep pour” structure. The specifications in a deep pour basement add about a foot in headroom, which can be crucial when running heating or cooling pipes through the space overhead. Sometimes standard basements have a difficult time accommodating the need for head space and pipes. Save yourself future problems and request the additional depth.

2. Laundry

Whether you prefer a laundry chute to move clothing down into the laundry room or an upstairs washing room, when you build a new home, you can have your heart’s desire. If you do choose to have an upstairs room, make sure you add enough space for a folding surface and some shelving and drawers for much needed storage.

3. Windows

Building your home allows you to choose energy efficient windows for your whole house. Not only will the windows help you keep your home insulated, but the panes can also allow the sunlight to brighten your home without losing any of the financial benefits the windows can provide. New windows can also silence outside noise, block UV rays, and prevent condensation inside the windows.

4. Closets

Women often complain they don’t have enough closet space, so why not build a bigger closet? Better yet, why not build a his-and-her closet duo, so neither of you has to intrude on the other’s space? Whether you choose a walk-in closet off the bathroom or a secluded closet nook in the bedroom, you can be sure to get what you want when you build your own home.

5. Outlets

It may seem like such a small thing but adding dozens of outlets to your home can turn a tech lover’s dream into a reality. Instead of needing to add extension cords across your house, add the outlets to make certain no matter where you need to plug something in, you have the means to do so. Make sure you add outlets in the entryway, along the kitchen countertop, and in your closet.

You may want to get a stairlift if you’re building a house for seniors.

When you build a new home, you have control over many of the features inside your house, and that can be a great advantage in creating a structure you will love living in. Talk to your architect to make sure he or she knows what you want before the final plans are drawn up.
