Designing your home can be stressful: you want it to look beautiful and picture-perfect, but still reflect you! Have fun decorating your home and make it look unique to you instead of just copying what’s on-trend. Best of all, you can do it without breaking the bank!

Check out these 10 easy ways to personalize your home.

Struggling to personalize your home? Whatever hue makes you happy, bring it into your home!

1 – Say Goodbye to Bare Walls

Nothing gives your home personality more than what you put on the walls. Wall art comes in many shapes and forms: you could do framed photos, watercolors, movie posters or even sculptures! If you want to do something even more personal, try a collage of family photos, framed postcards from your travels or a custom portrait from Instapainting.

2 – Play With Colour

What’s your favorite color? Green, purple, navy blue, blush pink? Whatever hue makes you happy, bring it into your home! You can paint the walls of course, or keep the palette neutral and bring colors in through decor pieces like throw pillows or vases. That way you can switch the colors out when you discover a new favorite, like cherry red!

3 – Bring Your Hobbies In

Why spend money on decor when you can use what you already have? Integrate your hobbies into the space for visual interest, and to ensure that your personality is felt throughout! Hang one of your cross-stitch creations, keep an easel with your work-in-progress on display, or knit your own throw blankets. Even if you’re not crafty, there are ways to bring your hobbies into the space: hanging your bike on a custom rack in your home is both functional and stylish. Check out theseways to spruce up your home movie theater.

4 – Find A Unique Piece

While you can get a lot of great furniture from Ikea, so can everyone else. Try picking up a piece that’s a little more unique to make your space feel different. You can go thrifting and find a vintage armoire, find a boutique furniture or Amish Furniture store for a hand-carved bench, or pick something up on your travels like an authentic Turkish rug or English tea kettle.

5 – Jazz It Up

Have a simple decor piece that gets the job done but doesn’t look like anything special? Time to DIY! You can take a simple white bookshelf and paint it to match your decor, switch out the knobs on your cabinets to something a little more fun, or add some ribbons and hot glue to jazz up your vases.

6 – Mix and Match

Sticking to just one style can look blah. You have many interests and tastes, so why not show them all off? Bring your love of color and pattern into the house with bright tapestries and throw pillows, and blend it with your love of vintage by using mid-century modern furniture. The end result will be fun, unique and totally you.

7 – Have A Drink

Want a decor piece that’s practical and whimsical? Try a bar cart! You can grab a sleek and stylish cart, load it up with your favorite drinks and simply push it into rooms when you’re hosting friends for a get-together. It’s totally functional as well as an eye-catching piece. Not much of a drinker? Make it a coffee cart with a Nespresso machine, cute mismatched mugs and some light reading to pore over while you enjoy your pour-over.

8 – Add A Reading Nook

No matter what your personal style, you can create a cozy spot to curl up with a good book. Find a corner of your living room and bedroom and add a comfy chair, a lamp and somewhere to put your feet up! Then you can go crazy decorating: fuzzy blankets, scented candles for atmosphere, a storage bench to keep extra books, etc. You’ve created a slice of paradise!
