4 Unique Ideas for Summer Fun

by RAKI WRIGHT

It’s summertime again, and people are busy enjoying their favorite warm weather activities like going to the pool and beach. Many are taking vacations or planning backyard barbecues. However, towards the middle of the summer, the monotony of doing the same things can take its toll.

Here are some different activities for you to plan to keep you entertained all season long.

4 Unique Ideas for Summer Fun

Train Rides

A train ride around your favorite city can be a fantastic way to spend an evening. Although trains can obviously take you from one destination to another, they can actually be an experience in themselves. Some companies even offer hotel and train ride packages South Florid with various themes or productions to make for an exciting ride. Many of these packages include impressive dinners, drinks and hotel stays.

The photo above is my son (who is now 16) riding the Thomas the Tank Engine at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in September 2007 (when he was just 5!).

Scavenger Hunts

Scavenger hunts, like the sf scavenger hunt (or one in your area), are not just for kids; they can be a fun way to spend an adult evening also. With the popularization of camera phones and the ability to drive, adults can organize into teams to take pictures of themselves in front of various destinations or objects. The key to planning it is to make it hard enough to be entertaining, but also easy enough to last no more than two hours. Once finished, plan to meet your group at a bar or restaurant for fun to continue into the night.

Check out one of these fun scavenger hunt ideas from my friend Corinne. My 9-year-old daughter loves these. We’ve done them at one of the local parks and are a good way to pass the time and get some exercise.

Game Night at the Beach

For a twist on the traditional game night at someone’s house, move it to the beach. You could be active and create your own obstacle course, or bring towels to sit on and set up traditional games. The change in atmosphere makes for an entirely different experience, and people are guaranteed to want to join. This option is good for couples with children, as they can usually entertain themselves playing in the sand.

Minor League Games

For cities with major league baseball teams, many people don’t think to search for minor league teams in the area. The truth is that minor league baseball games are highly entertaining. There are all sorts of contests and giveaways, without the pricing of its major league counterparts. They often have areas where kids can play, and they generally have some type of performance or entertainment in between innings.

Summer is a fun time to plan activities with family or friends. If you get stuck in a rut doing the same things, look for unique ways to pass the time. Whether it’s on a train ride, scavenger hunt, beach game night or minor league game, you can have a memorable night.
