Becoming a new parent is one of the most exciting and scary things that a person can experience in their lifetime. A new addition to the family will provide great joy however it is a huge challenge.

Luckily, you’re not alone! There are millions of people around the world who have gone through the same experience and are looking for parenting tips.

To help you out on becoming a new parent here are 11 tips that might make your start to parenting that little bit easier. For more tips for new mothers visit The Mama Zone.

If You Want To Be Left Alone, Say No To Visitors

When you return from the hospital many people might want to come to see you and your new bundle of joy. Lots of people feel obliged to welcome them in with open arms, however, your body has just experienced giving birth for the first time. You might be tired or in pain. Your baby’s health goes first. It might be easier to tell visitors to come to visit when things have settled down.

What Gifts Would You Like?

It is very common for friends and families to bring gifts for your newborn. If they ask you what type of gift you need, ask for something useful. A common present for newborns is clothes, however, you’ll notice that your baby will grow out of clothes made for 1 to 3-month-old children very quickly. Diapers, cleaning wipes, creams, and shampoos are much more useful ideas.

Bring A Change Of Clothes Everywhere

Babies can be very messy. Each time you leave the house bring a change of clothes for you and your baby. Keeping your clothes clean with a newborn is an uphill task.

Keep A Close Eye On The Mothers Health

With all the excitement of a new baby in the home, the mother’s emotions might go unnoticed. It is very common for women who give birth to suffer from postpartum depression and anxiety. If you notice any of these signs make sure you see a medical professional that can help.

Buy An Adjustable Cot

There are cots on the market that allow you to alter the height. In your baby’s first few months you can have the level up high so it is easier for you to pick them up and put them down. However the older they get, especially when they start to walk, you can adjust the cot so it is lower down and they can’t fall out.

Read To Your Baby Daily

Exposing your voice to young babies helps them to learn how to speak earlier. When a baby hears your voice it will soothe them and make them feel safe. Hearing your voice regularly will help them engage better with you.

Learn How To Swaddle

Learning to swaddle before your baby is born can save you a lot of hassle. It is not as easy as it looks and takes time to get used to. Getting a toy doll to practice on before the baby enters the world is much easier than attempting to swaddle a precious newborn baby. When a baby is wrapped in a blanket it reminds them of being in the womb so they feel safe and warm.

Get A Regular Babysitter

Getting your baby used to the same babysitter is a great idea. It will give both you and your baby comfort when you are apart. Introducing your baby to their babysitter at a young age can be beneficial. Once a baby gets older they often feel scared around new people, so having the same babysitter might help you feel relaxed.

If You’re Worried, Call Your Pediatrician

It seems that when you have a new baby, every parent around you becomes an expert regarding your baby’s health. If you feel something is right the only person you should listen to is a trained pediatrician. Newborn babies have a weak immune system so they can easily pick up illnesses.

Create A Bedtime Routine

When you bring your baby home from the hospital don’t worry about starting a routine as the baby might wake up every couple of hours. However, don’t delay too long either. A good bedtime routine will help you and your baby get a good night sleep.

Buy An Electric Breast Pump

Breast pumps can be great, especially for mothers who struggle to produce lots of milk. They help mothers extract milk from their breasts. There are plastic storage bags with labels that the milk can be poured into. You can write the date and the time the milk has been produced and place them in the fridge.
