How many weekends and days off have been dampened – or downright ruined – by the celebration the night before? Some hangovers are so bad that the entire weekend can slip away before your eyes, leaving you little time to recover before the workweek begins again.

That’s why you need a next-day game plan to keep hangovers to a minimum and get the most value out of each hour in your itinerary. Here are ten ways to still have a great day after a night of drinking, from hangover drink tips to activities and more.

1. Hydrate Immediately

Our first inclination when waking up after a big night is to lie in bed, accepting the misery of the situation. We encourage you to fight the urge to stay still and get moving ASAP, starting with hydration. This will get your body and mind moving in the right direction immediately.

Remember: while fresh water is a component of hydration, it doesn’t account for everything. The body also needs salts and minerals to get back on track, since these are heavily depleted by alcohol and unhealthy food; this hangover kit contains an electrolyte supplement, which contains some of the aforementioned salts and minerals that can kick start things once again, so could be a good thing to have in preparation for your night out.

Take hydration seriously from the start, and you’ll notice the hangover start melting away more quickly than usual.

2. Try a Contrast Shower

A contrast shower starts off warm and inviting, but then takes a jarring turn when you crank the handle to a colder temperature. The contrast is meant to wake your body up and release endorphins that make you feel better both mentally and physically.

It sounds a bit kooky, but trust us, it works.

3. Soak in Epsom Salts

If you’re really in a debilitated state, try soaking in an epsom salt bath to replenish magnesium and take away some of those aches. You can sip coffee or hangover drink of choice while relaxing in the bath and emerge 20 minutes later feeling like a brand new person.

4. Work Up a Sweat

Our bodies produce sweat when exercising or overheating, not only to keep us cool but also to remove toxins of various kinds. After a night of drinking, it’s never a bad idea to “sweat it out” however you see fit.

Go for a jog, hop on a cardio machine, or just sit in the sauna to accelerate your cleanse.

5. Recharge in the Sun

The sun has natural healing abilities and can help reduce some of the fog of the morning after the party. Just 20 minutes of direct sunlight in the morning can energize and improve your mental state before you take on the rest of the day.

Sunburns should be avoided, but just a small amount of UV exposure can work wonders.

6. Load Up on Nutrition

It’s tempting to eat something particularly greasy after a night of drinking, but you’ll feel better with a more nutritious morning meal that satiates without slowing you down.

Eat something healthy early on and pair it with a refreshing hangover drink like orange juice to feel better almost immediately.

7. Connect With Friends

It’s okay to commiserate with friends for a while when feeling the pain of a hangover, so check in with them at the start of your day. This reminds you that you’re not alone in the struggle, and you can motivate one another to get out and enjoy the day.

Maybe you can even convince a friend to join you for a gym session or light breakfast.

8. Skip the Brunch Drinks

We know how tempting it can be to take the “hair of the dog” approach to hangover mediation, but you know that this will only prolong the struggle further. Rather than kicking the can down the road, stop it in its tracks and choose the healthier option.

While others are sipping mimosas and bloody mary’s at the cafe, opt for lemon water and iced coffee to ensure you have a productive day from that point on.

9. Avoid Extra Stress

Don’t pile on the stress if you don’t need to. When already hung over, it’s a bad combo. That means avoiding super crowded areas, turning off the news, and leaving work emails untouched until you’re mentally and physically prepared.

10. Have a Hangover Supplement Ready

Some hangover drinks are designed to distract you from discomfort, while others are truly hydrating and healing. Find a hangover drink that checks all the boxes of vitamins, minerals, natural energy sources, and a dash of sugar for good measure.

The right supplement can work miracles, especially when paired with these other tactics.

Don’t Let Drinking Detract from Your Day

These aren’t your typical hangover hacks, because many of them are universal health tips to apply every day. However, if you check all those boxes upon waking, you’re sure to have a productive, positive day – even after a rocky start.
