The 5 Safest Car Models for a Teenager to Drive

This post may contain affiliate links. Read full disclosure.

by Maxanne

If you’re the parent of a teen driver, you want to ensure they purchase a safe car model the first time they get out on the road. You don’t want them driving a vehicle that has poor safety ratings.

They’re an inexperienced driver, so cars with the most safety features probably make the most sense.

We’ll talk about a few of the safest car models for teen drivers right now.

The Toyota SLC UT

The Toyota SLC UT has to be considered one of the safest models for teen drivers that’s on the road today. This vehicle has automatic high beams, which will allow your teen to better see the road ahead if they ever drive at night. It has lane departure alerts as well. If anything distracts your teen, they can quickly refocus with this feature.

It has dynamic radar cruise control. That should help your teen if they ever venture onto the highway.

The Toyota Highlander

If your teen wants a larger vehicle, the Highlander has them covered in the safety department. It is consistently an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

The rearview camera is helpful for teen drivers when they are backing up. They can see how close an obstacle is behind them when they’re in a grocery store parking lot or when they hop in their vehicle to head home after school.

The pre-collision braking system is also a potential lifesaver. It warns of danger and starts applying the brakes even before the driver does.

 The Toyota Camry

The Camry is a well-known commodity at this point. Recent versions have adaptive cruise control. It instantly adjusts the vehicle’s speed if your teen activates it and traffic patterns ahead of them change suddenly.

The automatic high beams also come standard. Since your teen is likely inexperienced driving at night, you will like the thought of them seeing the road ahead so clearly in the darkness.

Toyota RAV4

The RAV4 also gets major safety points for its automatic emergency braking and nimble handling. The handling is responsive, but not to the point that the car veers out of its lane if your teen turns the wheel too quickly.

This vehicle also has a handy multi-link rear suspension. That makes it grip the road, even in the most slippery conditions. If you live somewhere that gets snow and ice in the winter, that should make you feel better.

The Toyota Prius

The Prius is a groundbreaking hybrid, but it also has some excellent safety features. It got superb scores in side-impact crash tests by the NHTSA. If someone hits your teen’s car, they should remain relatively safe, even in high-speed collisions.

The heads-up display lets the driver see the most vital real-time car data without having to look down at the dashboard. This way, your teen’s eyes stay on the road when traffic surrounds them.

With any of these, you should feel certain your teen will be in the best position possible to enjoy their first few years of driving.
