Questions You Should Ask Your Orthodontist in Surrey

by RAKI WRIGHT

Surrey, British Columbia, residents are conscious about their teeth and settle for nothing less than perfect. Perhaps that explains the presence of around 2,850 orthodontists in this region, with the numbers set to increase by 2023.

Crooked, misaligned, and overcrowded teeth can be problematic, not just because they look unappealing. Do you know that imperfect teeth alignment leads to gum diseases? But how can you find a dependable orthodontist Surrey who can fix your teeth just as you want? There are various factors to consider before deciding, from an easy appointment process to their range of treatments. Here in this article, there are some questions you must be asking yourself to help you out with that.

What treatments are available at the clinic?

Start by asking the essential question: what treatments do they provide? Braces and Invisalign are the two most popular procedures for teeth alignment in Surrey. Check if the orthodontist offers these. Here are some details about each you must know.

Metal braces

Getting metal braces is your best option when dealing with rigid realignment. These are the two standard procedures for straightening and fixing overcrowded teeth. Durability, fast results and efficiency are some benefits they offer. If you’ve got gaps, the orthodontist would highly recommend it.

Clear braces

Clear braces substitute for traditional brackets and are usually made from plastic. Although they provide similar results, their topmost advantage is their ceramic or tooth coloring. Their presence on your teeth is discreet and not easily noticed by others. Before deciding between these, ask your dentist which one is a better choice.

Invisalign

These are the alternatives to braces you’ve always wished for. They are a set of plastic aligners that perform the same functions as braces but subtlety. Unlike braces, they aren’t visible to the onlooker, and when anybody glances at you, they wouldn’t even notice them on your teeth. Teenagers and young adults in Surrey love them for these reasons, and it is usually their first option for teeth alignment. Unlike braces, you can remove them while brushing, flossing, eating and drinking. They don’t irritate your mouth or cause side effects like irritation, jaw pain, discomfort or eating difficulty. Kids can also get this treatment as Invisalign first.

Do they provide ortho emergency services?

A report by the Ministry of Health reveals that almost 80% of dental emergencies in British Columbia, including Surrey, required a dentist’s involvement. Although ortho emergencies don’t usually occur, they can range from least to most severe. Food stuck between your teeth, loose ligatures, and mouth sores fall in the least severe category. Severe category cases include those where you swallow a piece of the mouth appliance. You should rush to the doctor without losing any time when that happens.

How much do they charge?

The specific charge will depend on your treatment’s duration, the severity of the problem, the number of aligners, types of braces and similar factors. Other than the cost, consider asking them about the insurance procedures. Most orthodontist clinics in Surrey will assist you with the insurance claims process. They will send the necessary information to your insurer directly over mail, avoiding the hassle of paperwork. However, it would be better to ask your insurer about the insurance plan in advance.

An orthodontist in Surrey will help you fix your crooked, misaligned and overcrowded teeth and give you the smile you deserve. Asking them about the treatment types, costs, and emergency-related services helps you choose one.
