How can renting textbooks help support Operation Smile?

operation-smile

This post is sponsored on behalf of CampusBookRentals and Operation Smile.  I have been compensated for time spent writing.

What is Operation Smile?

“Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity that heals children’s smiles, forever changing their lives. We’re a mobilized force of medical professionals and caring hearts who provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. One in 10 of those children will die before their first birthday. The children who survive are often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can’t afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a productive life.”

What is Campus Book Rentals?

“Founder and CEO, Alan Martin, was a student when he founded the company. So CampusBookRentals was born out of the acute pain Alan was experiencing as a student, and knows all too well what it feels like to pay for over-priced textbooks. That experience is what led him to the idea of renting textbooks, and since then we’ve rented over 1 million textbooks, and served students on just about every campus in the nation.”

How is Campus Book Rentals Making a Difference for Operation Smile?

CampusBookRentals.com makes a donation to Operation Smile with each textbook rented.  They have committed to donate a minimum of 80 additional surgeries between June 2013 and June 2014.  Operation Smile is an incredible organization that forever changes children’s lives through reconstructive cleft lip surgeries. The long-term improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible.

Why Campus Book Rentals Could Be a Game Changer for College Students

I remember being in college and having to buy a brand new Biology book for $80, when that wasn’t even my major.  At the end of the semester, the bookstore wanted to give me $20 for it.  I walked back out of the store with my $80 book and decided to sell it (or give it) to another student instead of losing 75% of my investment.  I’m glad that there are better options for college students today.

How Does Campus Book Rentals Work?

  • save 40-90% off of bookstore prices
  • free shipping both ways
  • can highlight in the textbooks
  • flexible renting periods

CampusBookRentals.com has a new program called RentBack:

RentBack is new initiative that allows students to rent the textbooks they own – to other students… which is awesome because it makes them 2-4x more money compared to what they’d make through buyback options! (selling their books back at the end of the semester) Isn’t that awesome?!
