How to Deal with a Blocked Drain

by Maxanne

Of all the many issues you could experience with your home, a blocked drain is probably the worst nightmare you could ever have. This kind of thing normally happens at the worst possible time and if you are thinking of a DIY fix, we certainly do not recommend it, as you can easily make things worse by compounding the blockage.

If you have never dealt with a drain blockage, we don’t advise you to start now.

Call in the experts

Search online for a company clearing blocked drains in the Eastern Suburbs and let the professionals handle the problem. The contractor uses special remote-controlled buggies that have CCTV cameras attached, which, when put down the drain, can give the technician a close-up view of what’s going on inside the drainage system. The only way to discover the state of your drains is by using video surveillance and whatever the issue happens to be, the drain specialist can deal with it.

Pre-source a local drain unblocking contractor

Why wait until you desperately need a tradesperson? It only takes a few minutes to Google ‘drain specialist near me’ and when you find what you are looking for, store their emergency number in your smartphone. No need to panic, when your drains are blocked, bring up the technician’s number and give him a call.

Locating the blockage

The hardest part of unblocking a drain is locating the blockage; it literally could be anywhere; if you’re lucky, it is in the u-bend of the kitchen sink, but that is a rare occurrence. How would you proceed? The best way is to call a drain specialist, who has the know-how and equipment to locate the blockage and remove it. CCTV technology is used when the technician sends a small robust vehicle into the drainage system and he directs it remotely. Click here for home management tips.

Pipe relining

Old clay pipes don’t last forever and things like ground subsidence can cause pipes to collapse; driving a motorhome or big truck onto your driveway could cause drainage pipes to collapse and that can be a major repair job. There are alternatives to digging up the damaged pipes and replacing them, namely pipe relining. The lining is slipped inside the broken pipe and inflated to provide a new lining that will last for many years; this could save you a lot of money. If you have a section of lawn that is greener than the rest, it could be due to a ruptured drainpipe.

Power flush

Once the blockage is cleared, the technician flushes the entire system with high-pressure water, which eliminates the risk of further blockages. This is all part of the service and an essential aspect to prevent further problems. Building maintenance is something that all property owners have to do.

Australian homeowners don’t take any chances with a blocked drain, rather they call in a local drain unblocker and they make short work of the problem.
