All you want to do after you’ve finally finished with your home renovation is to sit back and relax in your brand-new space. But don’t be so hasty! There’s still an important thing left to do: clean up.

Renovation projects leave every corner of your house covered in dust particles. Not only is it dirty, but it’s also hazardous for your health. That’s why it’s important to thoroughly clean up the area.

With prior planning, you can speed up the cleaning process. Read on to learn more.

  1.   Arrange for Prior Protection

Before you begin the renovation process, it’s important to protect the entire renovation zone. The best way of doing this is by hanging a tarp all the way from the ceiling to the floor. You can then secure it with masking tape.

If there’s furniture in the area, cover it with a tarp or a drop cloth. Make sure you seal the gaps between doors and closets with masking tape. This will prevent any dust from depositing in those crevices.

Protecting the area beforehand is a smart way of ensuring it’s easier for you to clean up after the renovation.

  1.   Allow Ventilation

When cleaning up your renovation site, be mindful of airing out the area. This is a crucial step since the entire place will be contaminated with dust particles and even chemicals.

To facilitate the clearing up of dust, let some fresh air in by opening up the windows. If you don’t feel that’s enough, you can even let your air purifier work overtime.

The upcoming cleansing process will get much easier if the room is well-ventilated. This will also result in the overall conservation of your time and energy.

  1.   Get Rid of Debris

Before you get into the nitty-gritty, it’s important to pick up the bigger pieces of trash and dispose of them.

Pick up any junk which has been left behind by the renovators. This could include paper, tape, or plastic packaging. Also, remember to clear the room of any tools used.

Cleaning up all the bigger items first will help you properly focus on cleaning the dust later without any distractions.

  1.   Vacuum the Area

Having the entire place covered in dust is inevitable after a renovation. Cleaning up this dust is essential since it can cause difficulty in breathing.

Put in some hours to properly vacuum the entire area. Do not limit yourself to the surfaces as there can be dust particles settled in other areas as well.

Keep in mind that you vacuum the ground first and then move on to the ceiling. This will prevent the dust below from settling on the roof again. To avoid putting in extra effort, try the above method.

  1.   Wipe and Scrub Surfaces

There’s more work to be done because vacuuming doesn’t clean up the entirety of the accumulated dirt. Thoroughly wipe all the coverings and other surfaces to yield a better result.

You may use a dry cloth on the walls and the roof. However, if you’re trying to clean the cabinet doors or windows, a damp cloth will do a better job. This will help it stay pristine.

It’s a good idea to scrub the tiles upon finishing your renovation. Branded machines like the Tennant floor scrubbers can help you with heavy cleaning, so you won’t have to put in much effort.

  1.   Clean the Vents

The whole process of renovation produces large amounts of dust, and the air inside is heavy with this dust. Therefore, it is extremely important to do a proper cleansing of the air vents.

Remove the covers of the vent, and use soap to clean them thoroughly. Put them back in their place after they are totally dry. Also, replace the filters that have been overexposed to dust and grime.

Cleaning the vents as well as the filters will help you dodge potential respiratory issues.

  1.   Sanitize the Area

Finish up your cleaning session by disinfecting the countertops, the furniture, and even the window panes. Make sure you do this meticulously.

You can use store-bought surface cleaners for this. Douse a cloth in the cleaner liquid, and wipe away the germs that might have piled up.

While you must sanitize the entire renovation zone, make sure that you pay special attention to the kitchen and washrooms.

The Bottom Line

Cleaning up is the final step to a home renovation. It’s important that you take this step seriously so that you can properly enjoy your living space afterward.

Be diligent yet smart with your cleaning practices. This will leave you with the spotlessly clean house of your dreams.
