Due to the pandemic, there was an extraordinary demand for clinics, hospitals, critical care units, and home-care capacity. In overcrowded institutions, healthcare staff was working much longer hours while frequently getting exposed to various pathogens and viruses.

What is more, the physical and mental ability of healthcare employees who continue working in the industry has been negatively impacted by the harsh working conditions and intensive exposure to the virus. All of this increases the risk of disease among healthcare professionals. In addition to that, they can also accidentally carry the virus to their homes and put others in jeopardy. To that end, here are six ways to preserve your health as a mom working in healthcare!

Get vaccinated

The vaccine is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from diseases and viruses. Thanks to vaccinations, diseases that previously afflicted and occasionally even killed thousands of youngsters and adults have either been eradicated or are almost extinct. The development of antibodies against sickness by a child’s immune system can now be induced thanks to advancements in medical research. You are much safer being immunized by a medical practitioner than trying to protect yourself with face masks. Mild soreness, redness, or tenderness are possible side effects of vaccinations. However, these symptoms pale in comparison to the level of protection that you get.

Sanitize your shoes

Hospitals contain a high number of people, especially the infected ones. Accordingly, there is a high risk of infection proliferation. This can happen simply when a sick person coughs, sneezes, or even breathes, whereby pathogens fall to the ground. After being out, the bacteria can last on floors for several hours or even days. Because of this, often healthcare professionals and other staff members’ shoes and shoe coverings serve as carriers for various pathogens of concern when they walk on contaminated surfaces. Even bigger problems occur when people come home with such shoes.

To that end, it is essential for every healthcare worker to sanitize their shoes before entering the home. For example, HealthySole PLUS offers a great solution for non-chemical shoe disinfection. This sanitizer employs germicidal UV light to kill shoe-borne pathogens in just 8 seconds. This way, you keep your family and yourself safe!

Keep your hands clean

Your hands pick up germs throughout the day as you contact various people, objects, and surfaces. By touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, you might distribute harmful germs to others or infect yourself. Even while it’s difficult to completely sanitize your hands all the time, regularly washing them with soap and water helps reduce the spread of germs, viruses, and other organisms. When soap and water aren’t accessible, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are a suitable substitute because they don’t require water. Make sure the hand sanitizer you use has at least 60% alcohol by volume.

Wear protective equipment

As a healthcare worker, it is essential to wear protective equipment. Personal protection equipment is specialized clothing that you wear to put up a line of defense against microorganisms. The likelihood of contracting, coming into contact with, and transmitting pathogens is decreased by this barrier. In the hospital, personal protective equipment helps stop the transmission of germs. This can help prevent infections in both patients and healthcare personnel. All hospital employees should wear protective equipment when coming into contact with blood or other body fluids or when being exposed to airborne infections like viruses.

Don’t forget face shields and goggles

Many people overlook the benefits of using face shields and goggles. However, these are important as they shield your eyes from bodily substances like blood. During an emergency or operation, it is possible that droplets of blood or saliva from sneezing can find their way to your eyes. The problem is that these fluids’ germs can enter the body through the mucous membranes if they come into contact with the eyes. So, in cases of higher risk, make sure you use these as well!

Pack your food

One of the most crucial things a working mom can do to protect her health is to eat healthily. In addition to the obvious financial benefits, bringing your own lunch gives you more control over what it is exposed to and how much you consume. First, when you prepare and pack the food yourself, you can be sure it was not exposed to contaminants and allergens.

On the other hand, when it comes to feeding your children, you could be a devoted follower of the food pyramid, but how wise are your own decisions? You’ll do far better with a mix of protein and fiber than, say, a bar of chocolate, which will keep your energy levels up and your mind sharp.

As a mother, it is more important than ever to come back home from work and other places safely and confidently!
