5 tips to prevent iron deficiency in your kids

Iron deficiency (anemia) in young age people is one of the main problems of the world. When kids are not able to get enough iron, they cannot grow normally. In simple words, iron is essential for the normal growth of children.

The deficiency of iron can range from mild to severe. When a child doesn’t grow like normal kids and shows some other signs of iron deficiency, address concerns for parents. Below are some tips by which parents can easily prevent the condition of anemia from occurring:

Feed them with iron-rich foods:

One of the best ways to prevent anemia is to feed the children with food that is rich in iron. If your child is 4 years old or older, you can add fruits, meat, and other nutritional food items for preventing anemia. If your child is younger than four years, iron-rich soft foods such as some dairy products which are gentle to the stomach can be fed. If you want to prevent anemia in your toddler, iron-fortified cereals can be the best option. So, do Shop for baby rice cereals at funch. 

Remember that, excess milk is bad:

There is a misconception that since milk is healthy and useful for bones and teeth, you can feed your child with milk as much as possible. Especially when your child is between the age of 1 to 5 years, make sure that he doesn’t take more than 750 ml of milk in a day. Excess of milk doesn’t let the iron absorbed in the body quickly. Due to this, it becomes a cause of iron deficiency. 

Add vitamin C rich foods to the diet:

You must be aware of many benefits of vitamin C such as improving the immune system. Another benefit of vitamin C is that it makes it easy for iron to get absorbed in the body. All those foods that offer iron such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and green vegetables have vitamin C and iron that easily prevent the deficiency from occurring

Ensure proper diet:

Unfortunately, some parents don’t pay attention to what their children eat and some parents are unaware of what their children should eat. Due to this, their kids and of eating something which is not healthy and becomes the cause of iron deficiency. It is very easy to ensure a proper diet. Some many charts and guides can be followed for healthy eating. Parents can also consult a pediatrician for obtaining information about it.

Get medical treatment:

Sometimes, you cannot prevent iron deficiency in your kids and toddlers simply by feeding them healthy food. If you are already doing this and you still feel that your child is experiencing anemia, you must get medical attention as soon as possible. They can be many reasons for anemia such as loss of blood. In such a situation, visiting the pediatrician’s immediate medical advice is the best step to be taken.
