Being a working mom is exhausting. For most full-time employees, the job stops when you leave the building, but working moms enter their second full-time job when they return home.
All these responsibilities can add up throughout the day, leaving little time for sleep. However, a lack of sleep can create serious problems in your everyday routine, like sleep apnoea. Here are a few ways sleep deprivation impacts your daily life.

4 Ways Sleep Deprivation Impacts Your Daily Life

Work Performance

Your work performance largely relies on a good night’s sleep the day before. A lack of sleep can decrease your ability to concentrate as well as your energy levels. To get through a productive day of work, you need to be on the top of your game for the full workday, able to concentrate on every task that comes your way.

Driving

Driving while drowsy presents an extreme safety hazard. Whether you are driving to work, running errands, or dropping the kids off at school, you need to feel fully rested to keep everyone in your car and other drivers on the road safe.

A lack of sleep not only decreases your ability to concentrate, but it also impairs your alertness, reaction time, and coordination.

Because driving is often second nature, we forget that split-second decisions and quick reaction time can be necessary at a moment’s notice when adjusting to traffic conditions. Without a good night’s sleep, we decrease our chances of making it to our destination safely.

Memory Loss

Being a working mom requires a good memory. You are responsible for remembering the details of your latest work project without forgetting what days the kids need to attend soccer practice and where your child left their cleats after the last game.

A lack of sleep can negatively affect your short- and long-term memory since sleep allows your brain to make connections that help you process and remember information.

Weakened Immune system

Being sick can certainly throw a wrench in your daily life as a busy mom. A lack of sleep weakens your immune system’s defenses against viruses, making you a likely target for the common cold or the flu. And, of course, moms don’t get sick days.

Work performance, driving abilities, memory loss, and a weakened immune system are all ways sleep deprivation impacts your daily life. Be sure to get a full night’s rest to keep you recharged and ready for the days ahead.
