When you get married to the love of your life, there is nothing in this world that seems more important. But, the test of the relationship starts once the honeymoon period is over, and the harsh realities and labors of daily life starts to sink in. Some early signs of marital problems start to appear, but many couples tend to shrug them off as something that will pass without needing any resolution.

Unfortunately, such couples soon find their relationships reaching a dead end, and they decide to file for divorce by engaging competent attorneys like Columbus divorce lawyers for business owners. You can take many steps to make the whole process of divorce less painful, but divorces are still messy, chaotic, and have many adverse effects on the health of spouses, especially women. We have discussed here four adverse effects of divorce on women’s health so that such women can deal with these issues in a much-informed manner.

  • Financial distress:

Many women go through severe financial distress after getting a divorce especially if they have spent their marital life in giving primary care to their children. It means that they would be left without a decent earning outlet after a divorce because they spent more time building their families than building their careers. As a result, such women will not have enough money to pay their bills and cover even the most basic household expenses. According to statistics, an average divorced woman never recovers from the financial strain of a divorce until she remarries.

  • Emotional distress:

Post-divorce, women are going to suffer more emotional distress as compared to men because they generally are emotional creatures and invest heavily in relationships. When they see their emotional investment of many years going down the drain so painfully, it triggers a brutal onslaught of emotional distress in them. Many factors like uncertainty, identity crisis, and ambivalence lead divorced women to plunge deep into the dark realms of depression. Even if a woman chooses to end a marriage herself, she would still bear the scar of that separation for most of her life.

  • Weight gain:

Depression manifests itself in many ways, and one of them is in the form of unhealthy eating habits. Processed foods are manufactured in such a way that they are incredibly tasty so that consumers keep on wanting more. Therefore, women reeling from the after-effects of divorce often adopt unhealthy eating habits, which if continued for a long time, result in weight gain and even obesity. It starts a vicious cycle in which the weight gain makes them further depressed because they feel they are not attractive anymore. As a result, they struggle to form constructive relationships and their social circle shrivels.

  • Cardiovascular diseases:

Among divorced spouses, women are much likely to experience cardiovascular diseases as compared to men. As mentioned earlier, a divorce triggers emotional distress in a woman which leads to many mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and even Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These issues are reported to increase inflammation in the blood vessels which makes women more vulnerable to diseases like cardiac arrests and strokes.

Therefore, next time you meet a divorced woman, treat her with the utmost consideration because she will fight battles on multiple fronts.
