4 Tacky Sweaters You Should Avoid Wearing This Holiday Season

Ugly Christmas sweater parties will be happening a lot during the holiday season. Here are four tacky sweaters you should avoid wearing this holiday season.

Fluffy sweaters are, without a doubt, popular winter wear picks. They’re cozy and soft, and they prevent you from freezing throughout the snowy season. However, you have to remember that sweaters are still a fashion statement, and recycling the same sweater every year can put a damper on your holiday pictures.

And if you do not want to gain attention for the wrong reasons this holiday season, maybe it’s time to let go and forget these following sweater styles.

You might say that the old sweater in your closet is your favorite, but that’s just it. It’s old! Old sweaters have lost their luster years ago, and they show signs of wear and tear. Yes, vintage and oversized sweaters are trending nowadays, but there is always a proper way to flaunt it.

Take the sweater Like Father, Like Fun Sweater by Modcloth for example. This piece pays homage to the 80s style with its colorful interchanging triangle pattern. However, it can be perfectly paired with any modern ensemble. You can wear a cute blouse with a peter pan collar underneath it, and rock out the look with winter leggings and boots.

For the folks who are trying to be funny this year, you’d better keep it down a notch. In the past, wearing raunchy sweaters might’ve given you a few laughs, but it’s high time to upgrade your closet.

The holidays are meant to bring you and your friends and family together, and wearing an offensive sweater design to your Christmas party may make that task a little more difficult. This is especially true if there are kids and parents about.

So, ditch those peeing Santa sweaters and choose to wear something humorous but more kid-friendly. This Bigfoot Holiday Sweater Tee from Zazzle is a good piece to get. It’s basically Bigfoot surrounded by familiar holiday ornaments but it’s funny because who knew Bigfoot also celebrated the holidays?

Too Much Color and Drama

Being expressive with your style is not a bad thing. The avant-garde scene, for example, has created various looks that explore proportion and color. However, that doesn’t mean that your sweater should, too. Wearing loud sweaters will definitely turn heads, but the reactions you’ll receive may not be what you expect.

If your sweater looks like the entire holiday season vomited on it, then you have to change it pronto. There are stylish sweater designs that showcase multiple designs and colors. Examples include Al Duca D’aosta’s multicolored Isabel Marant Etoile sweater and Alfani Men’s Colorblocked Sweater at Macy’s.

The colors of these sweaters aren’t too in your face, yet they exude a subtle holiday glow.

Tacky (or Downright Ugly) Designs

Sweaters with 3D reindeer print, exploding presents, and popular memes have got to stop. They are tiresome and unappealing, unless you are deliberately going for the tacky look.

Every year you encounter at least one person in a tacky sweater, so they’re not the best option if you want to look unique or original. If, for some reason, you have collected tacky sweaters over the years, it’s about time to add something more fashionable.

Pieces like Patagonia’s Men’s Reclaimed Wool ¼ – Zip Sweater, and American Eagle Outfitter’s Fuzzy Zip Sweater are definitely good options. Going back to the basics is not a bad idea because these types of sweaters can be used all year round if necessary.

Now is the time to finish your tradition of wearing badly designed sweaters. If you don’t know where to start your search, try looking at fashion-friendly sites like YesStyle.com.
