This is not a job that you should wait until the last minute to take care of. In fact, windshield replacement should be on your radar well before any damage actually occurs. In this blog post, we will discuss everything you need to know about windshield replacement so that you are prepared in case of an unfortunate event.

To Replace or To Repair?

Windshield replacement is significantly more expensive than repair. Because of this, many people lean towards windshield repair as their preferred option when faced with windshield damage. However, this is not always the best decision because not all damages are repairable. In some cases, the damage to your windshield is so severe that repair is not an option. In other cases, even if repair is possible, it may not be the most cost-effective solution in the long run. A glass expert can analyze the damage and give you the best advice when choosing the right course of action

The size and location of the damage are also telling factors in whether to replace or repair your windshield. As a general rule, if there are three or more hairline cracks, it’s a sign to have it replaced. The same goes for its length and depth, if it’s also longer than a dollar bill and it’s deep enough to go halfway through, you need to replace it. As for the location, if it’s anywhere on the outer edge part, you need to have it replaced. The size, length, and depth won’t matter anymore. To find a repair shop near you, a quick search for windshield repair in Alpharetta, Ga, or wherever you are located will help you locate a qualified professional for the job.

How Long Would the Replacement Take?

Once you’ve made the decision to have your windshield replaced, you’ll want to know how long the process will take. The answer: usually about two to three hours especially if the glass is totally shattered – it may take more time as there are necessary things needed to be done like cleaning all the debris. But with just minor cracks and chips, it should be no longer an hour as long as everything is ready and available. However, if a new windshield needs to be specially ordered, it could take up to five days for the replacement to be complete.

Windshield Replacement Cost

The cost of a windshield replacement will vary depending on the severity of the damage, the make and model of your car, and your location. In general, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $400 for a new windshield – with the majority of people paying between $200 and $300. However, if your car has special features like heated windshields, you may need to pay more as they may need to order that kind of glass.

If you have comprehensive insurance, then the cost of your windshield replacement may be covered under your policy. However, you will likely still have to pay a deductible – which is the amount of money that you are responsible for paying before your insurance company will start covering the costs.

Replacement Process

The windshield replacement should only be done by a glass expert. Many people try to do it on their own, but that is not advisable as it can be dangerous and may even void your car’s warranty.

The replacement process itself is relatively simple and only takes about an hour or two. First, the old windshield will be removed and the frame should be cleaned. Apply the adhesives or urethane then install the new windshield. The final step is to cure the adhesive or urethane and clean the area.

Curing time will depend on the type of adhesive or urethane used, as well as the weather conditions. Once the curing process is complete, you can then drive your car as usual.

Making the decision

It’s an inevitable part of owning a car to have a windshield problem. While it’s pretty expensive, windshield replacement is a necessary process that you should be knowledgeable about. By following the simple steps mentioned in this article, you can rest assured that your windshield replacement will go smoothly and without any problems.
