Yep.  You know exactly what I’m talking about.  Fair is fair.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that “you get what you pay for.”  It’s true for anything that is “cheap.”  There are certain things to expect when dealing with a quality product or service with a good reputation.

One of my favorite television shows is the Golden Girls, which ran in the late ’80’s and early ’90’s. In case you are only in your 20’s, I’ll tell you that the show is about four roommates: Blanche, the Southern belle – homeowner who works in an art gallery; Rose, the mid-western child-at-heart who works as a grief counselor; Dorothy, the substitute teacher from New York; and Sophia, a spicy, old-school-Italian grandma who happens to be Dorothy’s mother. The show centers around the family bond that is formed by these four ladies in Miami, as they share a home and do life together.

Although they live in Miami, we don’t see the Miami that often comes to mind. Instead, we see a ranch style home, a relaxing lanai (also know as a patio), and the sunny days spent in South Florida. So, when I think of Florida, I always think of the Golden Girls. I’ve visited the state a few times and the outdoors look just like the scenes from the Golden Girls.

Naturally, when I think ahead to my retirement, I see Florida.  Hopefully, I will have owned a home by then.  If not, I hope to be financially secure enough to have a custom-built home.

There are certain things I would expect when dealing with a quality home builder who has a good reputation.  I’ve read that Kolter Homes provides beautiful custom-built homes in sunny Florida.

You Pay for Quality

Quality products and  services cost money. In order to offer a product that stands the test of time, there has to be a financial investment in quality supplies. Accordingly, if you want quality services, be willing to pay a fair rate for that work. Good work isn’t cheap and cheap work isn’t good.

There May Be a Wait

Just like when I visit my favorite hair stylist for a haircut, I expect a wait. If she was no good, there would never be a line. So, if you are seeking quality workmanship from any professional, you should have reasonable expectations about the timetable and ask what to expect.

High Satisfaction

If you have paid top dollar and waited your turn, it is very likely that you will be extremely pleased with the results you get.

A home is likely the biggest investment you will make in your life. Take your time while researching, have a realistic budget, and expect to have a home that you love for the duration.

If you are a home owner, what was your home-buying experience like?
