The prospect of an upcoming birth, especially your first child, is indeed a fascinating experience. You want everything to be perfect for the forthcoming precious cargo and your bundle of joy to be as snug and comfy as possible.

We assume that you may be reading up on the dos and don’ts of childcare, and you are probably getting slapped with a flurry of advice from family, friends, and sometimes, even strangers!

If you were ever wondering about the perfect area for rocking your newborn to sleep, we have a few ideas.

Bassinets come in an array of different selections to choose from nowadays. They can be oval, rectangular, or even square-shaped and come in cane or willow material.

There’s even a new ‘Moses bassinet’ that has made an entrance, complete with a cradle design of what we believe is from biblical times. You may be worried about whether your baby would need to feel comfortable in the bassinet, with toys and blankets and stuffed dolls to keep her company.

But trust us, We would advise that you stay far away from using a pillow even. External items could pave the way for your baby to become suffocated and, in turn, suffering from disturbance or, even worse, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Bassinets already come with plush and secure mattresses and materials, which means you don’t need to include any additive elements in your baby’s sleeping area.

The best you could opt for would be a swaddle blanket for your newborn child. Unlike regular blankets, which you would usually consider an option, swaddle blankets are not too roomy and loose.

The bassinet blanket would be an excellent purchase for an infant as she would not be strangled or caught up in it by mistake.

When you choose a swaddle blanket instead of a standard blanket, we advise you to go for the swaddle blankets with builts in zippers and velcro to keep your baby secure and fitted.

When looking for appropriate blanket sizes for your swaddle blanket, it would be a good idea to look at the dimensions of your baby’s bassinet mattress and the scope for the best blanket dimensions.

When you swaddle your baby with the blanket, ensure that you adhere to the correct swaddling techniques. Don’t worry, and there are a lot of tips and tricks available on the internet.

With your swaddling blanket, you should always put your baby to sleep on their back, as it will help keep them snug and warm for a long time. Wrapping your baby in a snug rather than friendly manner will allow your baby enough breathing space but won’t expose them to any irritable weather or disturbance.

You should also make sure that you stop swaddling your baby when they are more than two or three months of age because they may get hurt.

It would be advisable to begin using other blankets apart from a special swaddling blanket when your baby grows a little older. By waiting a substantial amount of time before giving your baby standard blankets, you are keeping your child safe from unknowingly hurting herself.

You should keep in mind that it should not cover her head when you wrap the blanket around your baby. You should ensure that the swaddling blanket doesn’t go any higher than her shoulders and stays away from her head.

Accidently covering your baby’s head with a blanket could result in an increased risk for contracting SIDS ( Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

The best material of blankets to use for your newly born baby would be cotton or wool. The swaddling wraps or blankets for your baby should either get manufactured using a hundred percent cotton or other variants of natural fibers available- such as bamboo or merino.

You should keep in mind that your baby is pretty much incapable of modulating her body temperature, so you should always check whether or not if she’s feeling too cold or too warm.

A bevy of fleece blankets and baby wraps with fleece linings are available on the market, and you should keep away from them. Blankets made of fleece are only suitable for traveling in too chilly areas with your newborn and not when taking a nap at stable temperatures.

We hope you have gotten enough and more advice to confidently go on and shop for the perfect blanket for your newborn. Choosing the right blanket and wraps would prove to be a satisfactory and comfortable fit for your baby.
