Maltipoos have managed to catch the hearts of a lot of people and it doesn’t come as much of a surprise. They are cute, cuddly, and great with kids. They are also known to be highly affectionate and super friendly.

Maltipoos are usually referred to as designer dogs because they were purposely bred in the United States in 1990 and are a mix of the Poodle and Maltese. They are quite small in size and don’t shed their fur as often. This makes the perfect to have in an apartment.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the main characteristics of this designer dog breed. Looking for Maltipoo Puppies for sale to find out the best puppy for you.

Looks and Physical Features

Maltipoos have no particular breed standard with each dog featuring a random arrangement of parental genes. As such, these dogs take more after one parent than the other depending on which one has the dominant genes.

They have a soft and fluffy coat that usually grows in waves. If left unshaved, the coat can grow up to 11cm long. Their bodies are well-proportioned and most of them are muscular and athletic dogs. They are, however, prone to gaining weight but with regular exercise and a balanced diet, that can be avoided.

Temperament and Mannerisms

Maltipoos are generally happy and affectionate dogs that love to be in the company of humans. They are highly sociable and playful which means they get along very well with small pets and other dogs.

In spite of their non-aggressive nature, they make really good watchdogs and will bark at the slightest, strangest sound. If not curbed, this can develop into a problematic issue and can cause friction with neighbors.

Maltipoos Are Easy to Train

These dogs are eager to please meaning they submit to their owner’s authority without causing too much of a fuss. They are highly intelligent and will respond well to kindness, encouragement, and correction. Raising your voice harshly at the dog will barely have a positive impact on the dog’s behavior.

State of Health

Health concerns are not too common for the Maltipoo but there are conditions that you should still look out for if you have a Maltipoo or are looking to buy one.

For instance, one condition you should be aware of is the white shaker syndrome, a condition that causes the dog’s whole body to shake. Luxating patella is also very common but observing a good diet and regular exercise should help avoid frequent visits to the vet.

Looking for Maltipoo Puppies for Sale?

If you want to have a Maltipoo, you’ll be glad to know that you’ll have an active and fun-loving furry friend. They are a great choice for timid or first-time dog owners and are very loyal. They are also not hard to train and their high intelligence makes them learn fast.

If you come across Maltipoo puppies for sale, it would be wise to get one (or two)! They can make an ideal pet and companion especially if you have young kids who will really appreciate the dog.
