Underfloor heating is popular with lots of property owners – but why? Here’s what it could offer you.

Why you should make the switch

Underfloor heating has a large number of benefits, including:

Low maintenance

Underfloor heating systems—both electric and wet—have very low maintenance costs and require very little in the way of upkeep. This has made them popular with a wide range of property owners, from busy professionals who don’t have the time to spend on maintaining their heating, to landlords who are looking for a hassle-free option to put in place across their portfolio of properties.

Energy efficient

Underfloor heating is much more energy efficient than heating a property using radiators. Depending on the property and usage, underfloor heating uses anything from 15 to 40% less energy than radiators. Even if the savings that you make sit towards the lower end of that range, that’s still an impressive reduction in the amount of energy that you are using. This, of course, is great news for the planet – and you will find that UFH is installed in a large number of ‘green’ properties.

Low running costs

Another benefit of underfloor heating is that it comes with much lower running costs. Although it requires an initial outlay to install, you will find that it begins paying for itself right away. Your bills will be much lower, thanks to the fact that you need to use much less energy to heat your home. If you install multiple rooms, you may qualify for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). Those who are eligible will be paid for replacing their traditional central heating systems – putting even more money in your pocket!

Comfortable, even heat

Have you ever been freezing cold sitting on the opposite side of the room to the radiator, but then you turn it up and it only makes the room uncomfortably hot for those sitting closer? You won’t have to suffer that with underfloor heating. The entirety of the room will be heated to the same temperature, so you won’t have hot and cold spots. This makes a room much more comfortable for everyone and stops you from having to constantly adjust the heating level.

Gives you more space

Radiators aren’t the most beautiful additions to a room and depending on their size they can take up a lot of wall space. Underfloor heating can help you to make the most of every last inch of space in your home, freeing up much more room for you to use. Where you may have been restricted with where you could place the furniture before, you will now be able to create a floor plan that really works for you.

A cleaner, tidier home

Last but not least, underfloor heating allows you to maintain a clean home much more effectively. Radiators harbor a large amount of dust and are the perfect hiding places for spiders and other creepy crawlies. Reducing radiators has also been proven to reduce the number of dust mites in a room. They are also notoriously hard to clean, and if you drop anything behind them it can be a real chore to get it out!
