Tips To Help You Maintain a Good Dental Routine

by Emma Radebaugh

Maintaining optimal dental hygiene is more than just a commitment to your smile—it’s an investment in your overall well-being. In a bustling world where we juggle countless responsibilities, a robust dental routine can inadvertently fall by the wayside.

Tips To Help You Maintain a Good Dental Routine

The foundation for a brilliant smile lies in the regularity and conscientiousness of your dental regimen. These tips to help you maintain a good dental routine will keep your oral health and radiant smile in top condition.

Set Reminders To Brush Twice Daily

The American Dental Association recommends brushing at least twice a day. However, our busy schedules can make this easier said than done, and we may forget to prioritize this some mornings and evenings.

If this is the case for you, use technology to your favor by setting reminders on your phone or smart home devices. Brushing before breakfast removes overnight bacteria, and an evening brushing clears the day’s buildup.

Don’t Forget Flossing

Brushing alone only cleans about 60 percent of tooth surfaces. This is where flossing comes in to take care of areas your toothbrush can miss. Make a habit of flossing at least once a day, ideally before your nighttime brushing; this helps prevent gum disease and halitosis, and it is vital to your overall health. Remind yourself that no brushing routine is complete without flossing to promote this healthy habit during your day.

Keep a Water Bottle With You

Hydration is a cornerstone of good health, and this also extends to your dental health. Sipping water throughout the day benefits your body, helps rinse away lingering food particles, and keeps your saliva levels optimal to fight tooth decay. Keep a refillable water bottle nearby during the day to remind yourself to drink water for your dental and overall health.

Make Healthy Food Choices

Your diet has a larger impact on your teeth than you may realize. Foods rich in calcium, phosphorus, and vitally important vitamins can reinforce tooth enamel; conversely, sugary snacks can promote oral bacteria and cause cavities. Be mindful of the foods and drinks you choose throughout the day and how they contribute to your dental health.

Schedule Regular Dental Appointments

While visiting the dentist is something you should do when you have a dental emergency, it’s crucial to schedule routine appointments to keep your teeth in top shape. In fact, professionals recommend that most adults visit the dentist for regular checkups every six months. Professional cleanings and examinations help prevent and detect dental issues early, so committing to these checkups helps ensure your dental routine is working effectively.

Establishing any type of healthy habit can be difficult at first. However, remembering these tips to help you maintain good dental hygiene will get into the routine. Soon enough, you’ll have healthy habits that both you and your dentist can be proud of.
