5 Things Working Moms Want Right Now :: Forbes

Being a Working Mom has never been easy and Stephanie Coontz’s recent article about persistent gender inequality in the U.S. not only shames us internationally (we are the only developed country that does NOT give paid maternity leave) it highlights ways we have actually regressed in terms of equal opportunities in the work place. In the spirit of Coontz’s suggestion “[that we] develop work-life policies that enable people to put their gender values into practice” here are key things companies can do to make “working mom” less of an oxymoron. Besides winning points with women, it’s also good business. As companies seek ways to create more sticky work environments, being family-friendly is a big plus. In my company all top senior staff have families and we have policies that reflect our work-life balance values. Here are some things you can do to help women and your company.

Sheryl Sandberg’s Radically Realistic ‘And’ Solution for Working Mothers :: The Atlantic

My husband laughed and told me not to pay any attention. “It’s just because people think that women can only be one thing.”And therein lies the rub.Somehow, today—even while women learn and earn in greater numbers than ever before—the idea that women live in an “either/or” world stubbornly hangs on. A woman can either be a mother or a professional. Career-driven or family-oriented. A great wife or a great worker. Not both. In other words, the choices are Donna Reed and Murphy Brown (pre-baby). Precious few Clair Huxtables out there.

The 16 Different Hats of A Mother :: Babble

I was thinking the other day about my main label in life – “mother.” And how it gets broken down even further into “working mother,” meaning that I have a job outside of the home. I don’t mind the labels. I don’t mind being identified as “Harrison’s mom” because hey! He’s a cool kid and I like being associated with awesome people. I don’t mind being called a working mom because I love my job and I’m proud of the work I do…Then I move on to the other hats I wear throughout the day…

Shopping Made Easy {Working Mom Wisdom}:: Jennifer P. Williams

Managing my time is always a challenge for me. Between work and the keeping up with the kids’ schedules I do not have a lot of “free” time. I’m always looking for ways to save time (and money!).Normally I run errands on my lunch hour. I rush from work to the store and then back to work again. I’ve always wished there was a way I could order groceries or household items and have them shipped right to my house, but we live in a small town and no one has ever offered that service. Until now.

20+ Secrets of (Somewhat-Organized) Working Moms :: Parent Society

Whether your office is in your guest room or a serious commute away, spending the day away from your kid requires devising systems that help the whole family stay cared for (and even, on good days, calm and happy).

We asked moms across the country how they strike a home-work balance: Here, their organizational tips and working-mama advice.
