The Proper Way to Write a Timeshare Cancellation Letter

by Maxanne

Timeshares are a great deal for those that are interested in the service. But there have been issues where cancelling timeshares can become a bit of a process. This is by design, and you should do everything possible to avoid this issue.

Take Your Time

Before writing the cancellation letter, dive deep into Timeshare News and Updates. There is a lot of important information that will guide you in crafting the right wording. There are rights to this process, and the more you realize that the easier it becomes to take control. Like cancelling any service, there are steps that need to be followed. Whether the process is short or long, following it through to the end is expected for both sides.

Make It Clear

You don’t need to have the writing chops of Stephen King to write a cancellation letter. Often when writing letters of this type, people tend to talk around the point. It is no different than couples that break up over text message instead of face to face. Think of it as a confidence issue, where there is a bit of intimidation attached to letting the other side down. As the customer, you don’t ‘owe’ an explanation to the company about your departure. The reasons for a cancellation can be public or private – it’s all your choice. Both the subject line and the first paragraph should make it clear that cancelling the timeshare is the priority of the letter.

Are There Requirements?

Too many people send out a letter to cancel a timeshare without understanding that all companies are different. There are even companies that will only accept cancellations after talking over the phone! There are deadlines, proof of identity requirements and more. Don’t get your letter tossed by ignoring these requirements. If you don’t want to talk to a live person, go to their website for information or send an email asking for the steps. Invalid cancellation letters are the top cause of confusion when dealing with the end of a timeshare service.

Follow The Delivery Instructions

Part of the requirements for cancellation include specific delivery instructions. Don’t mess up on the address, and pay attention to how the letter needs to be sent. Some companies will only accept letters that are certified or registered. With rescission period deadlines, things can get more complicated if you’re doing things last minute. That is why it is important to take your time and do the cancellation right the first go round. If there are any delays, your errors may force you to eat the costs.

Always Confirm!

Emails now have a way to force confirmation, so there is no reason to not do it for snail mail. This is not just for your piece of mind, but their response also serves as an official receipt of the cancellation. Remember, you can never have too much validation when your money is on the line. Store the confirmation it in a safe place, or scan it to your computer.

A Simple Process

Following these steps will make it much easier to cancel a timeshare. No one should ever feel locked into a deal that is long past its due date. By cancelling with confidence, you’ll never have to deal with this problem again.
