Being a working mom can be a challenge, especially if you have an unsympathetic boss who doesn’t understand how much flexibility you need. The system is failing working moms, but so too are organizations themselves, who could provide additional paid leave and support but usually choose not.

Thankfully, us moms are resourceful, and many of us have launched our own businesses and become Mompreneurs.

Running your own business is exciting, but it can also be a challenge, especially when it comes to being taken seriously by customers and industry peers. It’s hard enough as a woman in the workplace, nevermind being a mom who has to manage her schedule around her kids.

To help all you amazing Mompreneurs looking to build a business and be the best mom you can be, we’ve put together some simple ways you can show you’re serious and grow your company.

Know Your Worth

With prices high and the financial world struggling, many customers are eager to do everything they can to get a bargain. Often, that means undervaluing small businesses and freelance service providers. Whatever type of business you run, remember to know your worth, set a minimum price and stick to it. You might lose a few belligerent customers, but the majority will respect your integrity and understand that your time and skills are precious.

Use A Virtual Address

If you need to get your business mail delivered and want to lend your business gravitas, then consider getting a virtual address. Providers like Physicaladdress.com offer affordable and convenient services to redirect your mail and give your business a corporate address. Having a physical address will also mean you can protect your family’s privacy, as you won’t have to share your home address with your customers and suppliers.

Create A Dedicated Workspace

Working from the kitchen table is OK in the short term, but for regular meetings and virtual work it can quickly become distracting and make you appear like you’re not serious about your role. So, where possible, you should try to create a dedicated workspace with a professional background. While you might have to deal with the occasional interruption from kids or pets, having your own space should reduce this and make it easier for you to separate your personal and professional lives.

Get Professional Headshots

As someone who works from home, you’ll often be seen by many of your clients and business contacts as simply a small image on the screen. That means you can’t have an iPhone selfie of you and your partner at the beach or having a laugh. Headshots are incredibly important for remote workers, so you get professional images done and speak to your photographer about getting them sized correctly for every use. You’ll then be able to present a professional image to everyone you encounter online.

Being taken seriously in any role can be a challenge for anyone, but as a parent trying to run a business from home, it can be exceptionally tough. These tips should help you to find ways to adapt and show how serious you are about success, which will set you apart from the rest.
