BBQ season is right around the corner and who doesn’t love a great BBQ get together? Well if hosting the ideal backyard BBQ is at the top of your to do list, then start with your favorite family-friendly games and activities.

There’s plenty of places that sell outdoor games, but go with a company that makes hand-crafted, quality products from Elakai Outdoor.

Nothing goes better with BBQ and cocktails then a few awesome activities to keep everyone busy as they socialize. Here’s a few of the most important things you need to know if you’re hosting this BBQ season.

Planning Goes a Long Way

From the menu, to games and food, to lighting and decorations, you can’t over prepare for your BBQ. You’ll want to write your invite list and make sure you’ve got plenty of propane or charcoal. The menu needs to be set and you’ll need to ensure there is enough parking for everyone. Straighten up the back yard, plan for trash and even inclement weather just in case. The better you plan, the better your BBQ will go.

Get a Few Games from Elakai Outdoor

Whether it’s a small get together or a neighborhood BBQ party, you’ll need some games and activities. People young and mature love to play games as they socialize. Activities help bring people together. Cornhole, horseshoes, and social pong are some universal favorites and they can be played by people of all ages. Once you have them in your repertoire, you’ll enjoy playing them over and over. They are great for family weekend games, reunions, and yes BBQ’s.

Always Plan for Extra

Yes, we’re back to the planning again but you should always plan for extra. Plan for extra guests because people inevitably bring guests. You’ll need extra drinks, extra place settings, and extra food. This is another great reason to ensure you’ve got plenty of great backyard activities. It helps keep the kiddos occupied and ensures everyone feels welcome, even if they are a plus one.

Create a Place for Guests to Regroup

This always goes a long way and preferably indoors. It doesn’t have to be a big space, just comfy, inviting and maybe even a little private. Sometimes guests get overheated and need a place to just  sit and cool off. Sometimes they may overeat or need to take medication and just prefer a few minutes to themselves. This also means people don’t feel like they need to leave right away if they do need to regroup or have a private conversation.

Pay Attention to Lighting

Backyard BBQs aren’t only for the daytime. The best ones run well into the evening. Once the sun goes down and it starts cooling off a little outside, then people really relax and have a good time. If you don’t have a lighting plan, then it could really put a damper on your activities. Even just string lighting can go a long way. Be sure to consider where you’ll be setting up the games when you consider your lighting options.

Get Creative and Have Fun

Backyard BBQs are about bringing people together so get creative and have fun. Feel free to ask guests to bring a side dish or dessert and serve some fun seasonal cocktails. Make sure to offer plenty of kid friendly options, too. Once the party starts winding down you can even make some fun activities out of helping pack up the games. It’s the best way to take care of the awesome lawn-games you get from Elakai Outdoors. Just be sure to offer party favors for the helping hands!
