How To Pose for Photos on Family Vacation

Get your phones and cameras ready while you traverse new lands. As you explore your vacation destination, remember to include your family in the pictures!

A family of three walking along the waterfront of a town. They are on vacation wearing springtime clothes.

Posing with your family for vacation photos lets everyone look their best. Avoid stiff and awkward bodies by discovering how to pose for photos during your next family vacation.

Lighting the Photo

Get the best possible angle of natural light for your vacation photos outside. For a warm glow on your photos, aim to shoot during golden hour in the early morning or late afternoon. For any other time, seek shaded areas to avoid squinting and harsh shadows.

Keeping It Candid

Taking candid photos ensures the most authentic emotions and interactions from your family. They tell the story of your travels through laughter and smiles. Capture the fun, and don’t be afraid to take photos as you participate in vacation activities.

Grouping and Layering

Frame your pictures in a way where it includes everyone’s smile. Grouping adds depth while keeping everyone’s face visible to the camera.

Generally, the best way to set up a photo is by placing taller family members in the back and shorter family members forward. You can also play with matching and create combinations of people for each photo. Whether you pair parents with kids or siblings together, include everyone in an engaging and diverse photo.

Use Props and Surroundings

Set the scene and use your surroundings as inspiration for your family photos. Many places offer nooks or stages to pose in front of for a photo. For instance, Disney World has plenty of photo opportunity locations for the whole family.

Find these locations and use your own items as props to build the scene. This could be hats, sunglasses, or anything you want to showcase in your hands. Add a layer of storytelling by crafting the perfect scene and posing for your family vacation photos.

Keep It Fun and Relaxed

Your vacation should be a stress reliever. Enjoy the moment and keep your photos fun and relaxing. Encourage laughter and natural reactions to create those joyful moments you want to remember.

Snap those perfectly posed images where everyone shines. Finding the right location and building the scene is an engaging experience that incorporates everyone for an entertaining picture. Gather your family together for photos that will live in your album for years to come.
