From summer barbecues and picnics to games and sports, our backyards have important purposes. Not surprisingly, in a recent landscaping survey, 63% of those surveyed said they would pay more for a home in an area with good landscaping.
Here your children can play freely, relatives and friends can gather, and you can enjoy some free time. Here are some tips for you on what you can do with some wood in your yard.
Pergola
A popular way of decorating your backyard is by installing a pergola. You can leave the pergola completely open or use a cover and privacy screen to keep the sun out. Sheer curtains can be used to cover the top and sides in order for you to have more privacy.
Timber Garage or Wooden Carport
If a family has more cars than can fit in the garage and you have a wood frame home or a rustic and traditional home, a wood frame carport is a good idea. It can provide a place to protect your car in the rain and snow and comes in handy when you are getting out of the car with some groceries or children in a downpour. Both a timber garage and a wooden carport increase the value of your home if you ever decide to sell it. They can be made from a variety of materials, but if you are worried about the ‘curb’ of your home and want something attractive and practical, a wood-framed carport is a good choice.
Updating the Awning
Awnings were a very popular thing during our grandparents’ generation, especially in their 1950s homes. Surely they have come a long way until now. Modern awnings are made of softer, more flexible, and more durable materials, and they look pretty simple. Having one or upgrading the old one is not a bad idea. You can use it during the summer or spring while having dinner with your wife/husband, relatives, or friends, or just sitting there reading a book by yourself.
Use Trees to Make Shade
The oldest sources of shade are trees, especially tall, beautiful trees with twisted and chiseled branches. The unique idea is to build the deck around a tree rather than cutting it down. It looks like a standing house and provides the perfect amount of shade – in hot weather, the wood can reduce the temperature of your home by over 20 degrees. Take it under consideration before just chopping it down.
Outdoor Day Bed
If you have the budget and the space, nothing could be more luxurious than constructing a large outdoor lounger in your backyard. This poolside canopy four-poster bed has drawstring curtains and a solid canopy to give you protection from the sun. So you can take a well-deserved afternoon nap without worrying that you will wake up with a sunburn.
Fence It Off
Additional seating can be added when creating an entertainment area outside the home. To make your guests feel as comfortable as possible, you can build a pergola in the corner of the property and add some wall panels to provide both sun protection and privacy for your children or your partner.
Tree Canopy
Patios and fabric covers can certainly block the sun’s rays, but sometimes there are better natural options. This simple structure consists of a few fast-growing small trees that can provide the perfect shade canopy. The structure also blends perfectly with the flowering garden that surrounds it. There are different kinds of tree canopies, so you have a good number of options.
Tool Shed
Gardening tools require a clean, dry, and easily accessible location to protect them from the elements. A smart option is to build a clean, wooden shed next to your home, near your courtyard or garden. If it is made of cedar, a naturally non-rotten wood, it will protect your goods from rain and insects while also providing excellent weather resistance. You can build one on a weekend using off-the-shelf lumber or buy a kit that bolts the panels together in less than an hour.
Garden Arbor
A well-placed gazebo is the ultimate multitasker in your garden and acts as an entrance to the outdoor space. Of course, it takes your mesmerizing outdoor space to new heights. The material for this one is cedar, which does not rot easily, but it can also be made from treated wood. Unfinished or with a coat of paint, you’ll love how this piece adds character to your outdoor space.
