How To Improve Ventilation in Your Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important areas to keep ventilated in your home. Stovetop cooking produces smoke, grease, and dangerous gases that are then released into the air in your kitchen. Want to keep the air in your home safe and clean? Here’s how to improve ventilation in your kitchen space.

Open a Window

If you have the luxury of a window in your kitchen, opening it is one of the best ways to let contaminated air out and fresh air in. If you don’t have a window in your kitchen, try opening a different window in a nearby room.

Cook With a Splatter Guard

When you cook greasy food on the stove, particles of grease and other pollutants are flung into the air and onto nearby surfaces. A simple way to avoid this contamination in the first place is by using a splatter guard while you cook. Doing so will make cooking safer for you and keep surfaces in your kitchen from becoming greasy.

Use a Fan

If you have a fan in your kitchen, turn it on while you cook. A kitchen exhaust fan will remove moisture and impurities from the air, while a normal ceiling fan will improve air circulation. For those of you with windows, installing a window fan is a good way to improve the effectiveness of the airflow coming from outside.

Install a Range Hood

If you don’t have one already, you should seriously consider installing a range hood in your kitchen. Since they’re powerful and positioned directly above your stove, range hoods are the most effective way to filter dangerous smoke and pollutants from the air while cooking. Even if your kitchen doesn’t have an exterior wall, you’ll be able to install a vented range hood on an interior wall.

Use an Air Purifier

Consider using an air purifier in your kitchen to keep the air extra clean. An air purifier will filter out any of the particles and pollutants that the other methods weren’t able to catch, and it will help remove any bad odors that have been created during cooking. Keep the environment of your kitchen friendly by trying one out.

Knowing how to improve ventilation in your kitchen will help keep your kitchen safe for you and everyone else in your household. Be safe while you cook and keep the air fresh—it will definitely make your kitchen experience more enjoyable.
