Your kitchen should be suitable for your lifestyle because it will make your life easier, and if you enjoy spending time in the kitchen, you’ll feel more inspired to try new recipes. Maybe you think you could improve some aspects of your kitchen because it always looks like a mess. Or you wish someone would give you everything you need when you cook and automatically put it back.

Maybe you should switch your life to a more practical, organized style without worrying about too many cabinets, shelves, and other spaces to stash everything you have. Today, you’ll read about a special style of kitchen: the shaker type. It is known for its efficient manner, avoiding clutter through structure and neatness, but without being bland. After finding out more about it, you’ll want to look up some more kitchen inspiration!

Start by evaluating the available space

Your kitchen should be spacious enough to fit your lifestyle. When living alone, you won’t need too much space, but if you plan on having a family, perhaps consider expanding your available space. You’ll be surprised by the number of things piling up daily.

The final goal of extending your kitchen isn’t just for more space but also for easy ventilation and airiness that will prevent mold from forming. The humidity in the kitchen is already at a high level due to the daily cooking, but if it’s not controlled, it can severely affect your lungs.

Upgrade your cabinets

Shaker style kitchens are famous for their unique cabinets. Even though they might look simple, the style is crafted to fit any type of kitchen, whether modern or traditional. They are made to look good from all the sides, and the front doors have a versatile style, with their panels framed. If you want a classier touch, you can have beadboard inserts installed on your cabinets.

You can also assemble shaker cabinets from many materials, but most are made out of the most qualitative MDF (medium-density fibreboard). When installing cabinets, don’t stop at the classical ones; look for corner units, tall cabinets, and even worktop dressers ( if you want to give your kitchen a classy feeling).

Choose a practical method of organizing your kitchen

Another important aspect to consider is the layout you choose. These are the most practical kitchen layouts:

  • One-wall style (if you’re living alone, this is the best option. It’s simple and doesn’t take too much space; you should choose qualitative and durable materials for this one to save money in the long run).
  • L-shaped kitchen (also suitable if you’re living alone, but you need more space for cooking and storing everything. You should install it on two connecting walls. It’s easy to move around, and it’s perfect for a two-color combination).
  • Island kitchen (perfect for you if you have more space and wish for an open design. If you want to install some more appliances, you can do that openly because it’s made to have easy access to everything).

Besides the layouts, organizing can also mean using hooks to hang up utensils, hiding your Tupperware, color-coding some utensils and cookware, or leaving things in the same place. Hence, it’s easier for you to put them back.

Find the best color combination

Even if it’s all about preferences and personal styles, a good color combination could make the difference between a normal kitchen and a shaker-style one. The dominant color schemes include neutral shades, and there’s also blue, ivory, and white that make the traditional shaker kitchen known for its elegant style.

If you’re the kind of person who loves pale colors, you can have these combinations:

  • Saige and camel
  • Pink and mist
  • White and eucalyptus

On the other hand, if you prefer colder, intense colors, consider these:

  • Black and teal
  • Periwinkle and gold
  • Navy and emerald

You can always look for complementary and analogous color schemes if you have one favorite color or see if any combination makes you feel like you can see it in your kitchen forever.

Adapt the lighting style

The lightning doesn’t have to be strictly related to the shaker style for this idea. But good natural lighting can be quite helpful when it comes to the room’s airiness. A bright room will always have a welcoming feeling, so consider having more windows and adding some curtains in the same color scheme as the elements in the kitchen.

For artificial light, you have two options: cold and warm light. Although a mix between these tones would be better: warm lightning for the walls and other suspended tools; meanwhile, the colder lighting goes under the cabinets so that you can see better.

Which are the best elements for a modern kitchen

For a modern style, like the shaker one, a kitchen should be equipped with state-of-art utensils and gadgets. Of course, it could be a more classical tone to the design, but you still need everyday products to make your life easier. Therefore, you should consider installing:

  • A wine drawer (you can select the preferred temperature for the wine, it is perfect for limited space and more private, in case you have kids)
  • Rotisserie (ideal for the family gatherings, and you can incorporate it into the kitchen assembly)
  • Window cleaner robot (for the windows that you choose for the kitchen)
  • Hands-free faucet (no more water splashed all over the sink and the panels)

The goal of a modern, shaker-style kitchen is to make your life better and enable you to spend more quality time with your family. That’s why it’s better to make it spacious and choose modern appliance housings. In the end, your kitchen will have the personality you wanted it to have.
