Common Problems Mothers Have With Their Newborns

New mothers have a lot of work ahead of them. From keeping their babies safe to feeding them, there’s no shortage of things to do.

Common Problems Mothers Have With Their Newborns

Therefore, mothers can feel overwhelmed when additional challenges come up. Here are some of the most common problems mothers have with their newborns to help you better understand and navigate your infant’s early stage of life.

Not Sleeping Through the Night

One of the biggest issues mothers tend to have with their newborns is getting them on a sleep schedule. While an infant will sleep much of the time, they’ll often wake up hungry in the middle of the night. This can make it difficult for mothers to get enough sleep.

Getting your newborn into a comfortable routine can be difficult, but it will help keep them calm through the night and allow you to rest. Give your baby plenty of time to settle down, watch for signs of sleepiness, and head to the bedroom right away if they’re starting to nod off. With time, you’ll get them on a more manageable schedule.

Breastfeeding Issues

Problems with breastfeeding are very common. The body doesn’t always produce enough milk, and babies can have trouble latching on. Biting, blocked ducts, and sore nipples are among the most common problems mothers face with breastfeeding which can make feedings challenging.

New mothers should consult their doctors if they have trouble nursing their infants. If a baby isn’t eating enough or is overeating, it can be detrimental to their health.

Diaper Rash

Infants often develop diaper rash, which occurs when a child’s skin becomes irritated or has an allergic reaction. Diaper rash is uncomfortable for babies, and it can invite bacterial infection that can spread quickly.

To prevent rashes from developing, use protective ointments, powders, and creams on your baby before putting on their diaper. If you start to notice sore or red skin, let your baby’s skin breathe. Don’t put on diapers too tightly, and change them often to ensure your baby stays comfortable and clean.
