Would you like to take an adventure to a new place to see if you have what it takes to lead a new set of friends?

My 6-year-old daughter and I recently had the opportunity to screen the upcoming Barbie™ movie: Barbie™ Star Light Adventure.

In Barbie™ Star Light Adventure, Barbie™ is a cosmic princess who flies high on her hoverboard through a far-off universe with her adorable and devoted pet sidekick, Pupcorn. One day, everything changes when the twinkling stars start to dim and slow their dance in the sky. Barbie™ travels to a beautiful new planet to join a special rescue team on a mission to save the stars. Once there, she teams up with a group of talented new friends who work together to save the galaxy through exciting hoverboarding adventures. Barbie™ soon discovers that if she listens to her heart, and with the help of her friends, she might be the leader the whole universe has been waiting for!

We turned it into a girls night screening party and we’re excited to share some fun pictures from watching the movie.

My daughter (Miss K) decided that she wanted to invite her Barbie™ friends to the screening. Here they are after their arrival at the Barbie Dreamhouse (a gift she received for Christmas).

The Barbie™ friends were all settled in the living room, ready for the movie to start.

As the movie began, we recognized one of the characters, Barbie® Secret Agent Doll, whom we had the chance to meet and get to know for our 5 Powerful Ways to Empower Our Daughters post.

I told Miss K we would be watching a new Barbie™ movie that no one else had seen over the weekend. She was really curious to see what this movie would be all about.

What a positive and encouraging way to start the movie: “You can be anything.” That’s just what I tell my sweet girl every day.barbie-star-light-adventure-2As the title sequences begin, Miss K starts to get excited, especially when she sees the movie title: Barbie™ Star Light Adventure.

The film is set in a colorful and welcoming, girl-friendly galactic aesthetic. This is a welcome change from typical sci-fi films in which space is dark and mysterious. She really enjoyed being able to watch the same types of movies that her daddy and big brother watch, with a feminine flair and more accessible dialogue for a 6 year old.

It doesn’t hurt that her favorite colors (pink, purple and turquoise) are heavily featured. 😉

That’s why I love movies for my kids that encourage and promote positive values and empower them to develop useful skills. In school, extracurricular activities and team sports achieve this, and in the workplace, learning how to work effectively with others is key. Instead of seeing coworkers as competition, you have to determine what you have in common and how you can achieve similar goals together.

Girls not only want to play dress up and look pretty, but they want to show off their smarts, make a difference in the world and do things for themselves. At least, that’s what my daughter tells me!

Barbie is compassionate, determined and adventurous, which makes her the team’s natural leader to make the stars shine again! I loved how empowered Barbie™ is in this movie. So many young girls lack the confidence to try a new sport or make a new friend. They are often waiting for someone to tell them it’s okay to do something. But here Barbie™ takes charge!

Miss K really enjoyed this movie—from Barbie’s pet Pupcorn, a flying cat, to music that was fun and easy to sing along to, lots of humor, a little magic and, of course, fashion.
