Arts and Crafts Ideas With Common Household Items

by Emma Radebaugh

We’ve all had those rainy days when you can’t seem to think of anything to do with the kids. However, there are certainly some objects lying around your house that you can use in various exciting projects. Continue reading to discover some arts and crafts ideas with common household items.Arts and Crafts Ideas With Common Household Items

Have Some Basics on Hand When Possible

You never know when your family might get that itch to create something, and you can make things a little easier by having a few incredibly affordable basics on hand to use in projects. You can pick up essentials like paints, markers, crayons, scissors, and glue at your local dollar store or order them online to find great deals.

Coffee Filters Are Incredibly Robust

We all need a cup of coffee or three to get our days started, but the filters you use are also convenient creative instruments. Draw designs on one side of the filter with markers (lighter colors work better). Fold the filter in half, then fold it again, and when you unfold it, you’ve created groovy cool tie-dye art.

Pool Noodle Fun

If you’ve been to the beach or the pool in the last few years, you’ve undoubtedly got some pool noodles sitting around, and it may surprise you that old noodles have a lot of creative potentials that kids will enjoy. A simple one you can do is pick up some paint and cut a noodle into small sections. Children will have fun stamping each noodle section into the paint and creating cool designs on a piece of paper.

Re-Use Cardboard Tubes

When you finish with a roll of toilet paper or paper towels, don’t toss it away. Instead, you can work on a variety of entertaining activities, such as constructing an animal. You can build almost any animal out of an old tube with some felt, googly eyes, markers, and glue.

Recycle Egg Cartons

Your old egg cartons are the perfect, durable material for crafting projects. You can make lovely ocean scenery inside an egg container for a fun project. By turning the box blue and adding sea animals, vegetation, sand, and whatever else you may think of, you can create the perfect aquatic scene with shells, glitter, paint, and other craft items.

The adage holds true when looking for arts and crafts ideas with common household items. Your imagination is your only limit. Everyday things transformed into art will delight children, and you can have fun breathing new life into old objects.
