Affordable Ways to Unwind After a Busy Week

by RAKI WRIGHT

Most mums look forward to the weekend because this is often their only chance to unwind and relax after a busy week at work and with the family. Finding enjoyable, interactive activities may not be as easy as it sounds, especially if running a household. Even if you are getting help from your partner or nanny, it is still quite the task.

Having fun doesn’t have to be restricted to happy hours with girlfriends or amusement park visits with the kids. You also don’t have to limit yourself to staying indoors just because you don’t have a generous budget to explore and visit expensive places and restaurants. There are several mom-approved ideas for an exciting weekend that won’t cost you much. You might even make a few bucks while at it.

As long as you keep an open mind and embrace creativity, you will be able to come up with fun weekend ideas for yourself and even your loved ones. If you are up for a fun weekend after a jarring week, here are some fun activities to explore.

  1. Board games

Board games never get boring, and one weekend of monopoly or chess is always a great idea. It is the best excuse to have a laid-back day at home over the weekend. Gather a few friends who love board games and have tournaments with refreshments and snacks. You and your party of enthusiastic players don’t have to restrict yourself to physical board games. You can also play some fun board games such as blackjack on an online casino.

If you play your game right, you could even win some money but focus on having a good time. You could make this a weekend tradition if the first time proves successful.

  1. Go on a hike

There is nothing quite as refreshing as being in tune with nature. Another fun activity to try over the weekend is going on a hike. Dress comfortably in the right gear and shoes and set out for your hike. If you enjoy biking, you could even take your bike on the hike. Ensure that you map out your route beforehand and take your hike through a safe path in your local park. Alternatively, bike through a trail in the evening and catch a glimpse of the beautiful sunset.

As you go on your adventurous hike, always ensure that your safety is your priority. Keep on correct gear through the entire walk and if you are doing it into the night, have on reflective gear and a helmet. You could also join local hiking groups or create your own!

  1. Enjoy a night in

Girls’ nights are some of the best and most affordable ways to enjoy your weekend. Ask around to find out if some of your girlfriends are hosting a weekend slumber party and join them. You could also organize a night-in experience and host your friends. Arrange a beautiful setting and bring some delicious snacks and food to make it more memorable.

You and your girls could also choose fun activities such as games for the night. Have a romantic movie marathon while catching up if you are into romantic movies. This is one of the best ideas if you want to spend little to nothing.

  1. Go to an art gallery opening

Art galleries are an excellent way to spend your weekend, and the best part is you get to dress up! You can walk around the gallery, admire art and try to learn about the featured artists. Ask questions about the art while having some wine and make some friends. Visiting an art gallery will also get your creative juices flowing and clear your mind.

  1. Visit the local flea or farmers’ market

Ever been to a flea or farmer’s market before? If your answer is no, this is your chance to attend one. The next time you need to get groceries for your family, why not do your shopping at the farmers market in your city. Apart from having a large selection of the freshest produce, you’ll see a variety of organic foods good for your health.

Alternatively, take a trip to the flea market, and you will come across a wide range of quality homeware, from kitchenware to furniture. If you are looking for unique pieces for your home, a flea market is a great place to start. You don’t even have to buy anything if your budget doesn’t allow it. Just do some window shopping, and if you see something you absolutely love, maybe you can get it.

  1. Take up a new skill

There are endless skills to learn, which you can do using different platforms and avenues. Consider learning new things in different niches in line with your interests. Then developing your skills in areas like culinary arts, science and decor is enjoyable and makes you more skilled. Learned skills might also come in handy if you want to turn your interest into a side hustle.

Learning is more accessible today thanks to free online resources such as videos and online learning communities, some of which are free. The ones that require a membership don’t charge much anyway.

 Conclusion

Even mums need some time to relax and explore personal interests, and these are just some of the great ways to spend your weekend. All of them cost little to nothing.
