6 Things You’ll Need If You Want To Become A Pen-Pal

by RAKI WRIGHT

A pen pal is an amazing concept. It doesn’t matter how introverted a person is, people still want an affiliation with someone. Pen pals are people who write to each other usually regularly. The person with whom you’re exchanging letters is usually a stranger. You don’t necessarily need to know the person to exchange letters. You can talk about your interests or hobbies. However, becoming a pen pal can be a bit difficult.

You need to keep certain things in mind before starting to indulge in this.  This article will look at 6 things you’ll need to become a pen pal.

  • Find the Right Service

Finding the right service is of the utmost importance. There are numerous services available on the internet. Some of these services might be for free, while others might require you to pay. It’s safer to choose a free service. Moreover, check the features of the services as some may offer privacy settings and some may not. If you decide to have a paid service, make sure you don’t empty your wallet on it. Sign up for a website and then create a profile.

  • Register

After finding the right service, you need to register yourself. It’s kind of like a dating site, and you need to create a profile that’s attractive to others.  The more people are interested in your profile, the more friends you can have. Mention your qualities and hobbies so you can find people with the same interests as yours. You can mention your qualifications as well and something unique about yourself. Ensure that you make an attractive and perfect profile because it holds immense importance in getting people to contact you.

  • Beware of Scammers

As with any platform out there, scammers are also present here. You need to be aware of scammers. They will try to exploit you and take advantage of you. Some will try to take advantage by asking you to do your homework, while others may try to get money out of you. You need to secure and safeguard yourself. For that, you have to be observant and if you notice something is fishy or wrong, eliminate contact with that person. People may also try to ask you for help in improving their language.

  • Have a Stable Network Connection

Having a working internet connection will play a vital role. Ensure that you have more than one person you can contact. This will be important because your pen pal may have connectivity issues or a communication gap. The communication can be because you didn’t receive their letter due to unknown reasons.

It may be that you don’t have a parcel drop box, so the postman didn’t deliver it. If you don’t already have one, don’t fret because there are great services online. The options found at  iloveparcels.com give you floor and wall-mounted choices, as well as fence-mounted or built-in drop boxes. Depending on where you live and what you feel would be the perfect placement, you can make an order online and have it set up in no time.

Moreover, try to keep an open mind.  It’s not a bad idea to add people from unknown locations. You may learn a lot about them and their place of origin once you talk to them. However, don’t blindly add everyone to your network. It can be overwhelming because you may not have enough time to maintain a healthy relationship with everyone.

  • Be Open and Confident

If somebody contacts you, don’t hesitate to reply. You need to be confident and put yourself out there in the world. You don’t have to trust the other person, but sometimes a leap of faith is essential. The trust part comes later. When you contact someone, greet them, tell them about you, and tell them why their account or profile is attractive.

  • Improve Your Handwriting

Writing skills play a pivotal role in penmanship. After all, if your pen pals can’t understand what you’re writing to them, then it’s of no use. The letters you write can be digital, but people usually prefer handwritten letters. This is why you should practice writing and improve your handwriting as well. Some people may be offended if you type your letters rather than write them.

These are all the things you need to be a good pen pal. Good handwriting and language skills are necessary for good communication. Ensure that you find the right platform or website and register. Make an attractive account for people to contact you or at least reply when you contact them. Keep an eye out for scammers as well.

Finally, be confident and get to know people and their ideologies. Make a connection network so that you can contact several people rather than just one. Once you’re aware of these things, you can proceed to make an account and start making pen pals.
