5 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR BATHROOM FEEL MORE SPACIOUS

Large bathrooms give off a more luxurious look than cramped ones. They can also help make the space more comfortable, which is great for unwinding after a long day at work.

In many cases, however, having a spacious bathroom without major alterations can be tough, often costing an arm and a leg. So, if large-scale transformations are unfeasible for you, you can still create an illusion of a huge bathroom by making minor but noticeable changes.

You might be surprised to know that even if your bathroom is not too large, it does not necessarily have to feel that way. Your goal for your bathroom should be to create a comfortable place with enough space to include the essentials and your accessories while allowing you to move with freedom. And the best part is that it’s possible to make your current bathroom feel more spacious without rebuilding it from scratch.

So, here are some tricks that will help make your small bathroom feel more spacious than before.

1. Replace your bathtub with a shower

If you have a small bathroom and you want it to look and feel more spacious, the first thing you need to make sure is to decide whether it’s a lack of space or poor space utilization. It might be possible that your bathroom has sufficient space but is just utilized in the best possible way. For example, a bathtub in a small bathroom might take up a lot of unnecessary space and limit your mobility.

A change you should consider is a bathtub-to-shower conversion. This conversion can help limit the wet space area or simply provide an illusion of space with fewer items in the bathroom.

Of course, finding high-quality and stylish showers and installation/conversion services can be challenging. So, do a little research and look for a bathroom remodeling company that guarantees top-notch products and services. This way, you can ensure the end product is excellent and that you find a contractor that operates within your budget.

2. Decrease color contrasts and stick to white or neutral colors

When you already have a small bathroom, using too many contrasting colors can make it look and feel more cramped than it actually is. So, there are a few reasons why your bathroom should have a light-colored theme. The most convincing one is that light and neutral tones bring a sense of calm to your bathroom. In contrast, dark tones, such as chocolate brown, navy blue, dark green, etc., can make the bathroom look smaller and worsen your mood.

It is because dark colors absorb both natural and artificial light, while light colors reflect it. Due to this, it is noticeable that light and neutral colors make the bathroom feel more airy. Therefore, if you have a small bathroom and you do not want it to feel suffocating, stick to light colors. For example, choosing an all-white interior for your bathroom is a great choice. It will give your bathroom an elegant and bright look, creating an illusion of more space.

3. Go for a large mirror

While you want to create an illusion of increased bathroom space, you may also want to keep your bathroom trendy and luxurious. Installing a large mirror on one of the walls of your bathroom is a fantastic trick to make your bathroom look and feel more spacious. Mirrors reflect light into the bathroom, making it look brighter. The brighter the bathroom, the bigger it feels.

There is another creative and stylish way to use mirrors for increased space. You can place two mirrors at the junction of two walls. This L-shaped mirror configuration will reflect even more light into the bathroom, making it seem large and bright.

4. Do not ignore the importance of lighting

Good lighting is essential to make your bathroom appear and feel vast. Dim lighting, especially in small bathrooms, can make your bathroom feel constricted.

The best way is to rely more on natural light as it lights up the whole room and opens up space to make it seem bigger. However, most bathrooms have only one window that does not let in a lot of natural light. In such cases, you must find creative ways to bring more light into your room. For example, you can install a solar tunnel or skylight to bring more natural light into the bathroom.

Another way to lighten up your bathroom is to have a rich lighting scheme. Install multiple light sources at different locations in the bathroom. For instance, you can have several different bulbs or LED lights on your ceiling at different spots. Your bathroom will look wider and brighter as light comes from many different directions.

5. Keep the floor tiles large

A mistake some people make is choosing small tiles for small bathrooms. It is a misconception that small tiles belong in small bathrooms. Smaller tiles create many dividing lines between the tiles, giving a cluttered look to the bathroom and making it feel more compact.

Contrary to popular belief, small bathrooms can benefit from large tiles. Large tiles make the room look wider and larger. Why? Fewer lines will break up visual space and create an overall great finish. Your bathroom floor will look more spacious. Therefore, always prefer large tiles over smaller ones if you have a small bathroom.

Conclusion

Bathrooms should be airy, spacious, and soothing. People with small bathrooms often struggle with limited freedom of mobility due to a lack of space. However, it is possible to make your small bathroom feel bigger with some smart tricks. Choosing the right color scheme for your bathroom, tiles, shower, etc., can help you a lot in altering the whole look of your bathroom. At the same time, opting for a tub-to-shower conversion or small tiles can make your small bathroom feel less cluttered than before.
