4 Areas You Didn’t Know You Need to Childproof

A mother tries to anticipate all the dangers for her child, but she may overlook some. Discover a few surprising areas of the home you need to childproof. How to Toddler-Proof Your Home
As a working mom with a new baby, your life can go from zero to one hundred in the blink of an eye. Between balancing your professional life and the needs of your newborn, you barely have time to think—let alone plan.

However, your child needs you to anticipate household dangers for them, and it’s crucial that you’re always on your toes—especially when your child begin to move around.

Along with the standard hazards around your home, make sure you also think about these surprising areas you need to childproof.

The Toilet and Bathtub

These areas may not seem dangerous, but they can still harm your child if you leave them unattended. Whether it’s the standing water, the pinch risk of the toilet lid, or even just the germs, the toilet and bathtub pose a series of hazards.

To prevent problems from occurring, always keep the toilet lid down, secure them with a lid lock, and apply cushion to any hard, sharp edges.

Entertainment Centers

With cables and electrical outlets galore, entertainment centers contain some of the largest choking dangers out of anywhere else in your home. However, many new parents fail to realize this risk due to most of these hazards being tucked behind the appliances.

Unfortunately, your child could still get ahold of these things when given the chance. To ensure their safety, you’ll need to properly organize these cords and use outlet protectors.

Cabinets and Drawers

Low-sitting cabinets and drawers aren’t as difficult to pry open as many new parents believe, and it’s this thinking that puts their babies in potential danger. Whether it’s chemicals or sharp items, your baby could find a number of things that put them at risk.

For this reason, many busy parents install locks on their drawers and cabinetry. This ensures their baby can’t get into trouble in the few seconds they look away.

Vents or Heating Appliances

From potential scratches to the unfortunate chance of burns, the vents and heating systems within our homes pose great dangers for exploring hands. Fortunately, childproofing your home’s heating systems doesn’t have to be a difficult task.

In fact, you can prevent contact with these items entirely by blocking off the area or getting a cover that properly disperses the heat.
