Even the smallest of windows can be beautiful on the inside and the outside, and even if the window area is cluttered with too many interior elements, you’re still going to be able to get around it. - Think about patterns. There is nothing worse than a home that is beige or Gray on the inside and no other colors. The draperies and the blinds that you choose can be as bright as you like and you can play around with print or patterned curtains or blinds in your home and make sure that they match the lighter colored blinds underneath. Some people may think it’s too gaudy or too much, but it looks excellent when it’s done well. Patterned curtains often suit both small and larger windows, and you can go full length with chunky stripes or you can go short with smaller spots. Horizontal stripes can actually make smaller windows look wider as well, and if you want them to look longer then go with the vertical.
- Think about layers. In the winter months, you want to layer things up in your home so that you can make sure that they are keeping in the warmth. It’s also true in the summer months. The layered designs are often made for bigger spaces such as French windows and Bay windows, but if you think about it, having blinds and curtains is going to be an economical way to keep the heat in your home and keep the cold outside. You can also add valence to the outside of the windows at the top so that you can dress the window and make it look pretty.
- Be bolder with your blinds. Blinds often sound boring to people, but it doesn’t mean that they have to be. Blinds come in many different styles, such as Roman blinds, or you can use the Venetian blinds. Model window blinds will often surprise you and not be as boring as you think, and you don’t have to go with boring white blinds either when you can get pleated fabrics or bold colors. Blinds are often more effective for bathrooms, backyard and kitchens, so consider Venetian blinds for these areas because you can choose different materials as well.
- Go back in time with cornices. If you want an old time look at your windows, then think about how cornices can give you that vibe. Embellished cornices come in neutral colors or bright designs and a range of shapes, and you get to play around with different types of patterns, fabrics and materials for this.
- Say yes to frills. Do you love the old Victorian designs of frilled and ruffled curtains? These can look sleek and classic and stylish on your windows, and all you’re going to be doing is adding in something beautiful to have a little bit of drama around the edges of their windows and it doesn’t have to look over the top. Frills and pleats can do this, and it makes the space look pretty and delicate rather than overdone.
- Add embellishments. While we’re thinking about jazzing up the windows, think about the actual glass of the windows themselves. Embellishments and set pieces can make your windows pop and give them a subtle but very classy look.
