Spring cleaning is the chance to give your home a fresh look, reducing stress. However, sometimes it can feel like a chore. So, get the whole family involved and offer your children rewards. Also, follow these smart tips to make the cleaning process go by quicker.

1. Remove Clutter

The first step is to get rid of clutter. Unnecessary junk can cover surfaces making it harder to wash or dust them. Instead, donate or sell unwanted items, like clothes. You can also buy storage bins for less frequently used items, such as holiday decorations. If you have less room in your home, consider renting a storage unit.

Once you remove the clutter, your space will feel larger and more welcoming. So, start with decluttering and then deep clean your appliances and surfaces.

2. Develop a Cleaning Schedule

This can make cleaning feel less intimidating. A schedule breaks tasks into smaller sections and helps you stay on track. So, create a daily, weekly or monthly one. Make sure you note all rooms in your home and cover all types of tasks. People often forget to clean behind the refrigerator and wash their bedding.

Once you have all the chores listed, assign certain ones each day. Having a schedule is essential if you have a busy lifestyle. It allows you to stay organized and ensures cleaning gets done.

3. Buy a Quality Vacuum Cleaner

Many tasks require a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and dust. These include things like cleaning your air vents and floors. A heavy-duty vacuum removes build-up debris from air filters, increasing indoor air quality.

Also, invest in a vacuum with suction to get hard-to-reach spots and corners. In addition, you want a cordless one, so you can freely move around the house. Keep in mind quality cleaning tools can make the job easier. They save you money with fewer repair costs as well.

4. Consider Hiring a Cleaning Service

Are you busy with work and taking care of children? Then a cleaning service might provide you with more convenience. It’s also helpful if you work long hours and have less time for household chores. These services will then do the work for you and allow you time to relax.

You can search online for companies, but make sure to read reviews and request a background check. Also, it can cost around $150-$190 but lowers your stress. If you don’t have room in the budget, get your family and friends involved to act as an extra set of hands.

5. Remember to Wash Windows, Furniture and Rugs

These are places that receive the most traffic and collect lots of dirt. Make sure to clean your couch, using a cleaner appropriate for your material. For example, use vinegar, warm water and dish soap to remove leather stains. In addition, remove seat cushions and vacuum underneath to catch any crumbs.

Vacuum your rugs and use distilled vinegar for a deeper clean. Suppose you have a steam mop; use this to remove any bacteria. Also, wipe down windows and dust window sills.

6. Clean Insides of Cabinets

Remember, it’s not just about exterior surfaces. Interior ones can accumulate crumbs and dirt quickly and are less visible. So, get inside cabinets, drawers and pantry shelves. Start by removing everything inside and hand vacuum any loose debris. Then use vinegar and warm water to wipe the interior with a soft cloth.

If they’re extra filthy, add liquid dishwashing detergent. This is also an excellent time to get rid of any expired food and take inventory of what you have. It can prevent you from buying items twice, reducing food waste.

7. Dust-off High Surfaces

Tackle higher surfaces, such as tops of refrigerators, shelves and lighting fixtures. You may clean these less frequently since they aren’t in your sightline. However, if they accumulate dirt, it can decrease your indoor air quality.

Plus, it can make your home look unattractive to guests. So, use a cleaning spray and cloth or a hand duster to wash those areas. You can also attach a microfiber cloth to a broom for harder-to-reach spots.

8. Pay Attention to Lower Surfaces

These areas are often forgotten, just like higher ones. You may forget to crouch down when wiping down countertops or tables. However, dirt and spills can accumulate, especially if you have younger children.

So, wash and vacuum underneath chairs and tables. Also, remember to get the dust from underneath your bed and refrigerator.  Consider cleaning the fridge’s air vent as well.

9. Clean Your Framers

Many furnishings have framed features that can collect dust over time. These include things like baseboards, chair rails and any decorative moldings. So, use a microfiber cloth or vacuum to remove debris and stains. This will make your decor sparkle and prevent bacteria.

Also, getting rid of dust is essential if you have a family member with allergies. So, add this task to your chore list to prevent dirt build-up. Plus, it saves you money by not buying new furniture.

10. Wipe Appliances

These may not be at the top of your checklist but are an essential task. If you don’t clean them regularly, they can grow mold or bacteria and contaminate your food. You want to follow the instruction manual for washing the specific appliance.

Run your washer on an empty cycle using white vinegar and water to clean it. Although if you have a self-clean function, use that to save time.

How to Do Spring Cleaning the Right Way

Over time your house collects dirt and stains from everyday use. That’s why spring cleaning is an essential chore. So, follow these tips to get your home in top shape.
