Seasonal Tree Care: Tips for Every Season

Keeping your yard full of healthy, vibrant trees year-round doesn’t happen by accident. Regular seasonal tree care is key for maintaining a beautiful landscape that boosts your home’s curb appeal. Following a few seasonal tips can provide the best seasonal tree care for your landscaping.

One half of a large, mature tree contains green leaves and has green grass. The other half contains bare limbs and snow.

Spring

Spring is when trees come back to life, making it the ideal time to conduct a thorough inspection. Look for signs of winter damage, such as broken branches or frostbite.

Pruning during spring encourages growth; focus on removing dead or damaged limbs with high-quality cutters to promote new growth. Apply a balanced fertilizer to give your trees the nutrients they need for a robust season.

Summer

The hot summer months can tax trees, making proper watering essential. Aim to water deeply and less frequently to encourage deep root growth.

Mulching is also beneficial in retaining soil moisture and reducing temperature swings. Keep a lookout for pests and diseases which are more common in summer heat. Use suitable treatments as needed to protect your trees from these threats.

Fall

Fall is a key time for preparing trees for the winter months. Start by raking leaves to prevent fungal growth and pests that lurk underneath. Continue employing mulch to insulate the base against cold temperatures.

Some trees benefit from added protection against frost, especially young or sensitive species. Wrapping tree trunks can provide an extra defense against winter’s chill.

Winter

Trees enter a dormant phase in winter, making it a good time for pruning. Use high-quality cutters to prune trees, ensuring clean cuts that won’t damage the tree.

Remove weaker limbs that could break under the weight of snow. Winter is also a good time to inspect the overall structure of the trees, as leafless branches give you a clearer view.

Regular seasonal care enhances your trees’ appearance and extends their lifespan, helping you avoid the high costs associated with damage or tree replacement. Start using these tips today to maintain a beautiful, hassle-free landscape that keeps your property’s value high.
