Mastering Feng Shui: The Proper Way to Arrange Your Furniture Indoors

by Maxanne

Have you ever come into a room and felt that the flow of it wasn’t right? It could be because of the way the furniture is arranged. This is one of the key elements of feng shui, a way of placing objects in a room so that everything is balanced.

Proper feng shui can be as simple as buying and placing designer large ottomans in a room, or it can be a lot more complex than that. We’ll talk a little more about this ancient art form in the following article.

Where Did Feng Shui Come From?

The feng shui concept started in China. Most people associate it with furniture and other objects one can place in a room, but it’s more than that. Feng shui can be used on a much larger scale as well. Entire cities and the placement of buildings can be placed according to fundamental feng shui ideals.

The translation of feng shui is “the way of wind and water.” This suggests there is a natural element to it. It traces its roots back to Taoist teachings. The first feng shui concepts began to be developed as early as 6,000 years ago.

How Do You Learn Feng Shui?

You can hire a feng shui master if you’re not sure how to arrange your furniture in a room so that it has a pleasant feel and flow, but maybe you’d like to give it a try yourself instead. If so, there are in-person workshops you can attend. You can also watch some of the many excellent videos on YouTube and elsewhere that talk about some of the main concepts this art form involves.

There are books you can read on the subject. The whole idea behind feng shui is that you’re creating physical spaces that feel harmonious and balanced. If you do this, then you should feel positive energy when you spend time in that space. You will be less likely to feel sad or depressed, at least in theory.

What Are Some Feng Shui Ideas to Help You Get Started?

Like all art forms, feng shui takes practice to learn, but there are a few main ideas that can help you get started with it if you have a house or apartment that you’d like to decorate or redecorate. You should never have clutter around your entryway. You should also keep your kitchen table uncluttered.

You should have no electronics in the bedroom. You should also be very careful about where you hang mirrors. You should not have one directly across from your front door.

The placement of a strategic plant can be very helpful for a room’s energy. Plants are living things, and they will cleanse the air. An additional aspect of feng shui is that beds should never be placed directly in alignment with a door that opens into a room.

That should be enough for you to get started. If you’re interested in learning more, the resources mentioned should help with that.
