Important Storage Locker Features You Should Look For

Many people looking for storage locker options focus only on size and price. However, it’s a good idea to consider other features of the locker, especially if you’re storing valuables or sentimental belongings.

There are several important storage locker features you should look for when you decide to rent one out. Ideally, you want to find a storage company that provides you with peace of mind when leaving your belongings in their hands.

Climate Control Systems

People often don’t think about the impact of consistently hot temperatures on their belongings. Many storage lockers sit in an outdoor facility and have metal doors that can trap in heat, potentially damaging your items.

Try to find a storage company that offers temperature-controlled lockers. It’s one of the best practices for storing furniture during a move, particularly for pieces made with sensitive materials such as aging wood or leather.

Climate-controlled spaces can also help protect documents, photo albums, yearbooks, and other paper items. Units without climate control may experience heavy humidity that can lead to mold.

Security Features

Most storage facilities have some sort of security measures, but it’s always a good idea to confirm what specific features they offer. For example, does the facility have a front gate or security guard stations? Do the doors have electronic locks or just basic padlocks?

You’re trusting your belongings to this facility, so you want to make sure everything is safe and secure. Some facilities provide 24-hour access, while others restrict entry to specific hours. Compare your options before making your final choice.

Convenient Location

Another important storage locker feature you should look for is accessibility. You want to find a storage facility that’s not too far away and is easy to get to if you need to regularly retrieve items.

Some facilities have multiple levels, so getting a locker on the ground floor can make things easier if you plan to store heavy furniture. Select storage facilities also have driveways and wide parking spaces that make it easy for you to pull your car up to the locker to load things in or out, reducing the distance you need to carry items.

A storage locker with the right features protects your belongings and simplifies your storage experience. Take time to visit potential facilities and ask detailed questions about their unique features before making your final decision.
