If your child is in a sport or any extracurricular activity, you will likely encounter the need to organize a bake sale. This is a great way to fundraise money for your kid’s team or school. Parents often plan these events, but how should they organize a bake sale for a fundraiser? Keep reading to ensure a successful bake sale for your child’s school or sports team.

How To Organize a Bake Sale for a Fundraiser

Choose a Date and Location

Before you begin finding volunteers or setting up a donation list, you need to choose a date and location that will ensure plenty of foot traffic. Two ideas are selling outside of a major sporting event for the school or in your community’s local park on a weekend. Choose this time and date in advance to allow yourself and all volunteers the time to adequately prepare.

Gather Volunteers

You cannot plan, organize, and run the entire bake sale yourself. You will need volunteers! Send out an email to teachers or other parents in the school, post a sign-up list inside the school, or talk to parents and community members in person.

You will need someone to process payments, set up the sale, clean up afterward, and advertise to the community. The more individuals you have helping you, the less stress you will feel planning this event.

Gather Your Supplies

To sell the items at your fundraiser, you will need the proper supplies! Not only do you need baked goods to display, but you also need essential supplies for packaging baked goods. Stock up on your supplies days before the event, so you have time to package every item.

You will also need something to place any donations inside, like a cash box. Consider making the fundraiser more personable by displaying pictures or quotes about the organization or team you’re raising money for on the receptacle.

Have a Variety of Baked Goods

The more variety of baked goods you have at this bake sale, the more success you’ll have. Everybody has different dietary preferences and allowances, so ensure you have enough variety to please most everyone. Consider brownies, cookies, bread, muffins, cupcakes, and tortes, and try to include plenty of allergy-friendly options.

Label Everything

Another critical step in organizing a bake sale for a fundraiser is labeling all the items. This helps people visiting the sale understand what each item is. Plus, this can help community members with allergies or dietary restrictions identify what they can eat on the table.

Fundraisers, such as bake sales, are great ways to raise awareness for charities or gather money for school organizations your child is in. Fortunately, planning a bake sale does not need to be difficult. With the right help, everything should go smoothly.
