Get the Me Time You Deserve

Do you take care of everyone else and have little to no time for yourself? This post will share six important ways to get well-deserved me time. Try one today!

This post is part of our 31 Things Every Working Mom Needs series. To read all the posts in order, visit the introduction post to see the outline for the whole series.

Motherhood is hard, especially when you feel like you’re giving your all and have nothing left for yourself. But it’s easier than you think to recharge and take time for yourself. If you’re looking for ways to carve out some much needed me time, don’t miss these practical tips.

Make Yourself a Priority

Beginning your morning routine with something you enjoy is a great way to build a long-lasting habit. I believe these four habits make for a more relaxed, happy, and productive mom.

Building a habitual early morning routine will give you more time, energy, and productivity. This may be the best way to set yourself up for a productive day, in under an hour. Check out these 4 Ways to Take Care of Yourself First.

Get Enough Sleep

Moms know first hand how hard it is to get a good night’s sleep. If it’s not a child who doesn’t want to sleep in her own bed, it’s the one who forgot to tell you about the project that’s due tomorrow.

Fortunately, there are a number of ways to help you get a better night’s sleep. Try these out and, hopefully, you’ll soon be sleeping like a baby.

I can show you How to Make a Plan That Will Help You Get More Sleep.

Prioritize Exercise

You just never know when you have a few extra minutes because traffic was light, a meeting got canceled, or Dad offers to pick up the kids. I stay ready for opportunities to exercise by keeping a packed bag in my trunk that includes the following: a t-shirt, comfy shorts, my sneakers, socks, my phone, and flushable cleansing cloths.

How do I stay ready to exercise? I use pockets of time before work, on my lunch breakafter work, the gym (using childcare), while kids are playing at the park. I have also shared How I Actually Fit More Exercise into My Day.

Hide When You Need to

Ever had one of those days when you just want to run and hide? You can’t take another moment of being an adult. You’re tired of answering questions, preparing another meal, and filling everyone else’s needs? This list of 10 Places to Hide When You Don’t Feel Like Momming (AKA Being a Mom) may be just what you need.

Read a Book

I don’t read as much as I would like to, so when I choose a book, it’s for a very specific reason. Over the last year or so, I have received these books and liked them so much, they have a permanent spot on my bookshelf.

Besides reading the Bible, I love to find practical books that help me on the working mom journey or ones that encourage me as a wife, mom, or entrepreneur.

Here are a few of my favorite books for working moms for reading in physical form or electronically, based on your preference.

Have a Mom’s Night Out

Moms don’t get a girls night out very often. But, when I do have the opportunity, I enjoy going somewhere with good food, good drinks, and a good vibe. A few weeks ago, I went out with my cousin and a long-time friend to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. We had a great Mexican dinner, some delicious drinks, good music to dance to, and laughter until our stomachs hurt. We have six kids between the three of us. We needed that night! When’s the last time YOU had a Mom’s night out?

When it comes to “me time,” put it on your calendar, make it a non-negotiable, stay away from home, and put your phone on do not disturb if you need to. You’re worth it!

How do you carve out me time? How do you spend it?
