4 Signs That It Might Be Time for a Roof Repair

Your home’s roof is its first line of defense against the elements, shielding you from rain, snow, and the scorching sun. Over time, even the most durable roofs can show signs of wear and tear.

One thing that so many homeowners don’t know or even realize is the fact that roofs need to be replaced every 15 to 20 years. So if you live in an old house, there’s a very high chance the replacement is long overdue. You’re obviously going to want to get the Best Choice Roofing company, but before you just randomly call professional roofers, it’s ideal first to see what the signs are. So, here are some signs that it might be time for a roof repair.

You’re Ceiling is Leaking

Alternatively, you’re seeing a bunch of water stains on your ceiling- which is basically just as bad. Honestly, this is going to be one of the most obvious signs that something bad is going on. If you notice water stains on your ceilings or walls, it’s essential to address the issue promptly. Leaks can lead to mold growth, rot, and structural damage. So, this is usually the biggest giveaway when it comes to a bad/ old roof, but it’s also important to know that there are some signs that are far less prominent.

Damaged Shingles

If you have a very high or tall house, then this is something that’s going to be more challenging to see, but if you’re able to spot this, just know that this seriously needs to be taken care of as soon as you possibly can. You’ll want to inspect your roof regularly for missing, cracked, or curling shingles. Sure, it’s not really ideal to have to go on a ladder in the name of home improvement, but regular checks will save you any trouble in the future. Damaged shingles can expose your roof’s underlayment to moisture and UV rays, accelerating deterioration. So, replacing individual shingles or sections can extend your roof’s lifespan.

Does Your Roof Appear to Be Sagging

So, while there are various shapes and heights for roofs, you’re still going to need to keep an eye on this. Is your roof starting to look off? Is it starting to look not nearly as high as it once looked? So, a sagging roof means there’s damage to the structure itself.  It can result from excessive moisture absorption, inadequate ventilation, or the weight of accumulated snow. So, this is something that no DIYer should be doing themselves. Instead, you’ll absolutely need to have someone to help out.

Your Energy Bill is High

Has it been getting unexpectedly high the last few months, yet there haven’t been any changes to your appliances or lifestyle? Sure, sometimes it can be insulation, but there might be an actual issue with the roof itself. A damaged or poorly insulated roof can result in heat loss during the winter and heat gain during the summer, making your HVAC system work harder. Honestly, it’s far cheaper to repair the roof than to allow it to just continue on with this issue.
