6 Easy Ways to Save on Diabetes Supplies

November is American Diabetes Month, a time to raise awareness of diabetes prevention and controlHere are six easy ways to save on diabetes supplies such as testing, test strips, and blood glucose meters.

Take Advantage of Free Offers

This week, Walgreens is offering free A1C testing.  It’s a great way to find out your status in-between doctor checkups to make sure your diabetes is being managed well.  CVS is offering free health screenings in major metropolitan areas.

Just this week, MoneySavingMom posted a deal on Magnilife Diabetic Neuropathy Foot Cream for free after Register Rewards.

I have scored free meters (which include a few test strips) from drugstore deals and newspaper coupons. You can Buy Ozempic Online to get more reasonable rates.

Ask Your Doctor and Drug Manufacturer for Help

Ask your doctor for sample medications and supplies.  Ask your drug manufacturer.  There are also prescription assistance programs and patient assistance programs available (rxhope.com or needymeds.org).  Bayer Contour advertises testing strips for less than $15 per month.

Purchase Generic Prescriptions

Take the list with you to your doctor appointments and ask your doctor if any would work for you.

  • Kroger offers a 30-day supply for $4 and a 90-day supply for $10.
  • Walmart offers a 30-day supply for $4 and a 90-day supply for $10 (and home delivery options).
  • Target offers a 30-day supply for $4 and a 90-day supply for $10.

Use Store Brand Testing Supplies

Participate in Reward Programs

There are several reward programs for diabetes sponsored by drugstores, government agencies, and health insurance companies to reward monitoring diabetes and healthy lifestyle.

CVS ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes offers a free gift for signing up.  As a member, you’ll earn Double ExtraBucks® Rewards (that’s 4% back) on over 100 products.  I have received several exclusive coupons in the mail on diabetic products.

Be Open to Using Any Brand

As I mentioned, I have scored free meters such as Bayer, Breeze, True2Go, Contour Next EZ, and Accu-Chek Nano (which include a few test strips) from drugstore deals and newspaper coupons.

Being a diabetic has its costs, but with a little research and creativity, it can be manageable.

What tips do you have for saving money on diabetic supplies?

Disclosure:  I am a diabetic.  I freely offer up my opinions to promote awareness and to help other afford diabetes management.

  • I am convinced that dabteiics can be reversed. Five years ago, I was diagnosed. The medication that I was on made me sick; I just could not take it, so I researched and decided to control it through diet, exercise, supplements, vitamins, constant testing and record keeping. I cut portions, carbs, experimented with a gluten free diet and learned to get my protein in other ways. I also found foods that I could eat which would make the pancreas less resistant to releasing insulin. Eat Right For Your Blood Type is an excellent book to read and it became my bible. As long as I eat correctly and enough food, my sugar is under control; A1c = 6.1 for five years.Once I had a problem with tingling feet. A friend told me about Benfotiamine. I researched and added 900 mgs a day along with 600 mgs of the Alpha Lopic Acid I was already taking and my circulation is fine now. I take green tea extract, lutein, chrominum, omega 3-6-9, multivitamin, vit. C.One day I decided to eat , exercise and take no supplements. To my suprise my numbers were amazingly under control. Morning 108, three hours after a meal 98. I get lower readings when I eat more fruits and vegetables and small amounts of meat.I am 70 years old as of last month and play tennis four to five times a week. Tuesday, I started volunteering to coach beginner tennis children at a summer camp. I work out with the kids running up and down hills, exercising and drilling with them. They don't know it but I am having fun while they complain about being hot and tired.I really think that dabteiics can be reversed but you have to eat to win.

Most medical supply companies and drug manufacturers supply healthcare providers with free samples of their products. Ask about samples whenever you visit your physician or diabetes educator. Check out the ADA’s site for the dates and locations of upcoming Diabetes Expos, where free health screenings, classes, and samples are available. You can also contact supply companies directly and ask for samples.
